Worktop as backsplash behind stove

Hi 👋

We are meant to be picking our kitchen back splash this week. Our current plan is an upstand along the wall. As our sink is on our island , we only need a splash back for above the stove .

My husband suggested using our worktops as the backsplash . We are going with silestone lagoon quartz. I tried googling pictures of this and there’s not a lot out there . Has anyone does this ? My only hesitation is it looks a bit boxy ? But then so would tiles . I’m now questioning if this is the look we want or if we should just tile the entire wall .

Are you having wall units on stove wall?

EgSk · 20/10/2021 22:21

@BruceAndNosh yes we are ! Here is a picture . It’s not great as the kitchen is still being built . The stove is going on the right side in that gap . We will have a chimney style extractor.

How wide is stove?
Is upper gap.same as lower gap? Will extractor span the full gap?
(sorry for inquisition!)

I would have a glass splashback. I've got granite worktops and upstands, and glass behind the hob - mine extends across the whole wall. I really didn't want tiles and grout, but can't imagine worktop behind the hob either. Glass is available in a huge range of colours and finishes.

We did that! Had initially planned glass splash back but then decided for quartz like the worktop. It looks really good and works really well, wish we had done the entire width of the wall!

That's what we did too. The kitchen fitters were pretty skeptical and thought it would get damaged quickly. 10 years later, it's still fine.

I have a Silestone splash-back that's the same colour and length of the worktop.

It's about 10mm thick and the fitters did not enjoy installing it because it was difficult to manoeuvre in to place. It worked out though and they didn't break it.

It's been fine (thanks to expansion gaps), it looks great and it's easy to clean.

We have recently had quartz behind our range cooker - same as worktop. I love the hand made tile look but the recess doesn't have straight walls so the tiles would have looked squiffy! The quartz works well and looks good.

I think it could look boxy behind a 60cm stove but judging by the size of the steps in the gap, I 5hink you're having at least a 90cm range which could look OK.

We have quartz to match the worktop for the entire length of the wall. Not cheap, but I love it and it looks seamless.

@BruceAndNoshour range cooker is 100cms. I know what you mean when you say the smaller the stove the more boxy it can look , and that’s what I was finding on google images . From seeing other responses it seems to be recommended though 😅
