Rightmove

We have put our rental property back on the market as tenants are leaving but have found out our agency is no longer using Rightmove. They are saying Zoopla and On The Market are better portals Hmm

Is this me or is this utter nonsense?!

Worried that we may not have much success if it's not listed on Rightmove.

Change agents
Rightmove is IME the go to portal
We bought and sold a few months ago and only really used RM
Zoopla ok but not as easy to navigate etc

FernGilly · 19/10/2021 14:13

Right move all then way! They are probably just trying to save money.

CocaColaTruck1 · 19/10/2021 14:13

I would change EA.
Everyone I know uses Rightmove, majority of people daily.

Upsky · 19/10/2021 14:15

DS is looking for a flat and uses them all.
Doesn't seem to help as every single place is gone before he can view.

mm40 · 19/10/2021 14:19

They’ve dropped RM as it is enormously expensive (because it probably has the most views) I think I would change EA.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 19/10/2021 14:24

I think as long as you have Zoopla you will be alright, you definitely need or the other. I've never used On The Market so can't comment on user experience, but I feel it's less used than the other two - obviously that's only amongst people I know or come across though.

Walesrecommendations · 19/10/2021 14:24

To be honest if I'm looking for property I sign up to all three so would see new properties from all. I know most people use Rightmove but in this climate I would imagine a lot of people are looking anywhere and everywhere they can.

LivingTheLifeofMum · 19/10/2021 14:33

Agree it's because RM is expensive (but expensive for a reason!) There's no other logical explanation for them dropping RM.

The irony is that we moved to them a few years ago because the small agency we were using didn't use Rightmove 🤦🏻‍♀️ and we weren't getting many prospective tenants at all.

Although yes, in the current climate I think we'll probably be ok even just on Zoopla. It's just that I really don't like Zoopla. I find it clunky and not user friendly at all.

Honestly, when we were looking we registered with all 3 because barely anything decently priced is coming to market. If you're priced for the market not being on Rightmove will not affect your chances of renting out unless you're somewhere with a glut of rental properties going up for grabs.

As Upsky said, even with active alerts we were lucky to get in to view anywhere. Everything was being snapped up before we could even view it...or if we viewed we'd be added to a pool of 15 or so applicants for the Landlord to cherry pick.

Upsky · 19/10/2021 15:37

a pool of 15 or so applicants for the Landlord to cherry pick
This happened with the one and only place he managed to view. Applied straight away, good rental and employment record, high salary. What more do they want?
I've suggested next time he offers 3 months rent in advance to see if that helps. Has to get a viewing first though.

Whammyyammy · 19/10/2021 16:04

If I was looking to let or sell a property, and the EA/letting agency didnt use rightmove, id find one that does.

LivingTheLifeofMum · 19/10/2021 16:05

Yes one property for rent around our area apparently had 75 applicants, one agent told us. Shock I'd guess that was on RM too though(!)

But Christmas is approaching so all that will probably slow down.

Yes, I think you are right. Although I'm dreading all the phone calls and the inevitable sales spiel of new letting agents 🥴

I've been property searching and can say that Zoopla alerts are much much quicker than rightmove, I was seeing properties on rightmove a day or more later in some cases! That doesn't sound long but obviously through covid they were going within a day. If I was trying to find a rental property I would be checking every notification from Zoopla, not RM.

Summersdreaming · 19/10/2021 16:19

Agree that the site is not as slick as RM though. No harm in doing both, depending how expensive it is?

sst1234 · 19/10/2021 16:23

Zoopla is a just a poor imitation. Switch agents.

user1471538283 · 19/10/2021 17:41

You need rightmove for the traffic. I found our apartment even though it wasnt on Rightmove but honestly it could have been a near miss. Whenever apartments are available here and they are not on Rightmove they are empty for months.

Roselilly36 · 19/10/2021 19:41

Non negotiable for me, I only view on RM, so an agent that doesn’t choose to use that platform I would not instruct.

surreygirl1987 · 19/10/2021 20:02

I only look at RM. Many others I know only do the same. I'd change agents.
