New kitchen - what are your essentials

DH and I are planning to completely replace out kitchen next year. It's hideous and we haven't changed it since we moved in three years ago so it's time for an overhaul. So, we're starting to think about it now and decide what we must absolutely have and I thought i'd see what others think.

We live in a standard three bed terrace. Kitchen is average for that size house, no room for an island or dining table but that's ok. We have a passage way that runs along the side of the house where we currently have our American style fridge freezer and washing machine. We have a separate dryer in the kitchen which we will probably move to the passage way freeing up room for a pantry cupboard which we definitely want. We also have room under the stairs where we keep hoover, golf clubs etc... so no issue with storing that stuff.

We're ripping out all cupboards, worktop, oven and moving the boiler too so it'll be a pretty blank canvas. Aside from two sinks, i've no idea what we should think about having, maybe a wine fridge? What would your absolute must haves be?

Don't know how narrow your kitchen is, but I had one long wall with a half depth work surface with half depth cupboards beneath. To be honest, most cupboards are too deep and you have to root around/unpack to get items from the back, whereas mine are just deep enough to store plates etc. The half depth work surface above is ideal for the kettle, slow cooker, toaster etc, I really don't think I miss anything storage wise. In other parts of the kitchen I opted for drawers as I find them much easier to find things in!

@Shefliesonherownwings it's a waste disposal unit in the sink. They're brilliant

@corblimeygov

IMO It's a bit off to go to a studio for a design if you don't intend to buy, so we booked a design week with an independent. That way there's no sales pressure, as the one we booked doesn't sell anything. It also meant when we sent out our plans and listing we could ask for trade discounts as we weren't using the retail service. Karen at one plan was recommended on the lessons learned Mumsnet thread a few years ago.
How do you source an independent?

Do you have a link to one plan, please?

Oooh just had a look at One Plan, they look really good. Might see if DH can be persuaded.

@corblimeygov are you Karen from One Plan?😆

I would not be without my:

Larder cupboard (huge cupboard at eye level with tonnes of shelves and drawers)
Quooker
A large fridge/freezer.
Range cooker with double oven and six burner gas bib (although I appreciate this is deffo not on your list).

I’ve had all the above over two different kitchens.

@JuneJuly lol. Just a happy customer, very happy to recommend.

In our kitchen we have the following:
Underfloor heating
Corner pantry
2 dishwashers
Drawers everywhere
Eye level oven and microwave
Hot water tap - got a Franke tap
Hidden 2 level bin 60 cm unit
IKEA units (which builders hate installing electrical/plumbing behind.)
Large fridge freezer (I got one which had drawers for the freezer instead of drawers)
Appliance garage (basically consisting of 3 x 1000 high units turned on their side and getting hinges which fully lift the doors so I can keep stand & bread mixer behind closed doors but on the work top)

@BoofTheFloof

Also induction hob. Again, got grudgingly talked into it due to issues getting gas line fitted and now I absolutely love it. So much more responsive, easier to clean, looks great, better at simmering on low and heating on high.
What brand have you got Boof?
