Wayleave agreement

Just wondered if anyone has had a wayleave agreement for power lines over or under their property.. as I understand it, the electric company pays you an amount to allow them access to the power lines for maintenance work etc..

I had a letter sent from a company Thompson Broadbent, who are an intermediary company (chartered surveyors) who would arrange the wayleave agreement in exchange for a % commission and we would get the rest of the money from the electric company.

I just wondered whether anyone else has done this and whether there are any drawbacks or disadvantages of doing this.

Thank you.

I doubt they will give you any benefit to justify letting them have the money.

they, however, will probably end up with a filing cabinet full of thousands of agreements that bring money rolling in for a hundred years.

We have one. Get a whole £9 a year. Just make the agreement direct. It's probably not going to be £££

We had one of these. I contacted National Grid (I think it was), filled in the form they sent me, provided a copy of the property plan showing where their power lines crossed my property & they sent me a cheque. If you use Thomas Broadbent (or similar), they take a commission.

Good luck!

We have one (it was already in place when we bought the property). They just send us a cheque for £35 a year and there's nothing else involved (aside from having.the power line on our property, obviously).

You don't need a surveyor to do this. Just call up the provider (western power for me) and ask to speak to the wayleave department. I had to fill out a form which was very easy. You get a lot less for cables but I got over £2k for having a transformer. In fact I got it twice as there was one at my previous property too! The agreement lasts 14 years and then you get the payment again.
