Anyone have one? Do liquids fall into the vent? What brand is yours and would you get another?

I was taught heat rises,so unless you have a vaulted ceiling, surely a ceiling extractor would be better ?

I got a ‘cheap’ one from Amazon. It works fine, but the fan’s a bit noisy .
So pleased I didn’t pay the £1500 for a branded one though

We recently had our kitchen done and the designer was very keen on the Bora models. I was quite tempted, but the problem for me was that I wanted a single big induction zone where you can put your pans anywhere. The Boras split the cooking area in two which reduces the flexibility of your hob.

In the end we got a Miele induction hob with a full area induction zone and a Westin hood built into a long shelf over the hob and worktop and it is miles better than the slightly crappy built in hoods we’ve had before.

We’ve just had the kitchen redone with a Bora and it’s life changing!

You can stand next to a pan of bacon or onions and not smell a thing, it’s super easy to clean and whisper quiet

Love love it

Neff flexi zone with downdraft extraction. It’s on the island with a big skylight above. It really works well but I won’t lie, it’s noisy on full blast. Wish we’d got a Brora.

Just don’t use it on full blast very often!

It takes up quite a bit of space underneath as well, it vents out the back so you need space behind for that. Ours is ducted under the concrete floor.

Have a Bora
Love it

omgosh never heard of these! They look amazing.

Paid quite a lump for a supposedly quiet extraction unit which extracts up through a chimney. Very very average and very very loud. 🙄

These Broras seem to need quite a bit of space to install but look great. Too late for us though.

Yes, we have extremely high vaulted ceilings. I'd like the extractor on the island, and having over 2m of metal piping hanging down from the ceiling to get an overhead extractor would look awful!

For those with them, if your pans overflow, do they suck the liquids into the fan? What happens?

The Neff one has a basket that you can take out easily and rinse under the tap and a box underneath you take out to clean (and that would collect water too) every now and then.

The hob tends switches off if it gets water on it so that prevents any major floods!

Our kitchen fitter said that if you had a big enough kitchen you don't really need an extractor. But I'm glad we've got one.

I'm only just thinking that at some point we'll have to put a big ladder up to do an annual inside clean of the glass above no doubt...

Nope, don't agree with that at all.

ablutiions · 18/10/2021 10:25

We've got a Siemens one. Overflow mainly doesn't get used as it bleeps to let us know when it overflows and it overflows infrequently as it's so easy to control.

It can be noisy on full blast but it does work very well.

We redid our kitchen as part of an extension, so it won't apply to anyone doing a straight swap of one kitchen for another

But it is part of current building regs to fit an extractor, regardless of how big your kitchen is.

We don't always use it, but the times I need to, I'm very glad we have it, especially if you eat in the kitchen rather than a separate dining room.
