Shared Ownership

Can't find my other thread on this so will have to start a new one :(

Still in the process of searching for shared ownership properties. Now the process is getting on a bit and I'm getting a feel for what I do/don't want in a house can anyone advise on any good shared ownership solicitors? I'm based in London.

Also, I'm aware that not all banks offer mortgages on shared ownership properties. I'm wondering if there's a list of those that do/don't or if it's best to just get in contact with a broker to navigate this for me?

If so how do you find a good broker ?! I've googled and googled and there's just so much choice.

I'm pretty sure my son used L&C mortgages to find his. It is with Nationwide, I'm pretty sure he also considered Barclays.

I used nationwide. I used New Direction Law but they were pretty slow. Good luck with it.

Yep use a broker. I went on recommendation.

Use a broker like L&C. Although every shared owner seems to end up going with Nationwide.

You’ll also need to find a solicitor who understands shared ownership but your chosen housing association will likely give you some names.

We're in the process of buying on shared ownership too, 50% of a 3 bed flat in London. Our main options are Leeds and Skipton building society as our deposit is not high enough for the share they think we can afford to buy and mainstream banks require 10-15% deposit (which works out to over £20,000 - if we had that we would be going for full ownership). We've just had a baby so our last chance to get on the property ladder else we will be stuck renting for many years before we can buy a home!

The housing association normally have a panel of solicitors they recommend using, and the share to buy website have a panel of brokers too who you may find it helpful to contact. I hope the process will go smoothly for you!

Also, I definitely suggest getting in touch with a broker - they have different fees, we are going with Censeo who specialise in shared ownership. Costs £395. You can find cheaper but they worked out the best ones for us. Hope that helps!

Don't use L&C - they are shite.

Try to find an independent broker, might cost a few hundred, but mine saved me thousands with the mortgage they found me (I wasn't shared ownership though)

I had a mortgage through the Woolwich for my shared ownership.

For a solicitor I used Cook Taylor Woodhouse in Dartford, both for when I bought and when I sold.
