Tap left on for 24 hours...how much will it cost?

Shower was left on from 7am yesterday morning, not full blast but more than a little trickle. I have only just noticed and switched it off. Does anyone know how much roughly that might cost? I mean on the water bill. The plug wasn't in so luckily no water damage.

Estimate:

Shower running at half usual rate: 5 litres per minute

24 hours at that rate: 7,200 lites

Cost of water: around £3 per 1000 litres

Total: about £21

That's for the water. If you were burning gas via a boiler or using electricity to heat it it will be quite a bit more.

We were allowed one "accident" on our water bill.
When we moved into our house ( which was generally in a right state) one of the loos was leaking..a biggish trickle into the bowl. We got it fixed but it had been dribbling for a couple of days.
The water bill was £173 but the water company accepted our reason and we paid a much lesser amount. Usual bills are around £80 a quarter.

Thanks so much for explaining this.

Luckily the water was running on cold and I have a PAYG meter for electric.

Thanks everyone.
