Do you call it the room it is….

We are still calling it the extension but I think that’s coz we haven’t moved in completely yet….

We have a car port converted into a room which is called the "new room" despite being done as soon as we moved in 7 years ago!

I've had 2.
The conservatory - which has always been called the conservatory.
A small 3m x 2m extension on the front of the lounge which also took about 1.5m from the lounge - has always been called the playroom.
The kids are yr 11 and gone to uni, and since covid I use it to WFH although it still has a corner sofa, tv & consoles. The playroom no longer sounds appropriate but it isn't just a study and I don't really know what to call it.

The Snug?
Iggly · 17/10/2021 08:03

Ours is still the extension 4 years later 😂

Chasingsquirrels · 17/10/2021 08:06

WhereDoesThisToiletGo, hum, I don't think SNUG fits the room, despite the sofa.
It adjoins the lounge with double pocket doors that are mostly open nowadays.

Our extension just made the house better so it's as if it doesn't exist . I've actually forgotten we had it tbh . It's just the house now . Surely it will just be makes whatever it will become .. kitchen , dining room etc ?

We had this discussion on one of the ongoing extension threads when we knocked our existing kitchen /diner into our tiny TV room and squared the result off by adding The World's Smallest Extension.

"Where's my mobile?"
"I saw it in that knocked through bit that we spent too much money on "

FuzzyPuffling · 17/10/2021 08:19

How about
the "extra room"
the "unexpected room"
the "secret room"
the "other room"
the "forgotten room"
the "Voldemort room"

I thought I had the world's smallest extension at 3m x 2m 😄. How small was yours?

Mine was actually a really good spend as the £10k it cost gave me a playroom plus a better proportioned lounge after taking 1.5m from the length.

jennymac31 · 17/10/2021 09:05

Our extension is called the 'kitchen diner'.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/10/2021 09:19

@Chasingsquirrels
Ours was about the same, maybe 3.2 X 1.8.
I joked that it was about the size of a large sofa, and finally last month a sofa arrived to fill the space!
It certainly "punches above its size" as the additional usable space it has created feels much bigger. Plus much better light
Ours cost a lot more than yours but we did install a new kitchen too

Chasingsquirrels · 17/10/2021 09:24

Sounds like it was worthwhile then.
"Size of a large sofa" made me laugh.
Mine was about 10 years ago and filled a corner, so only needed 2 external walls and we reused the existing window in the new space. It was also a 'back of a fag packet" type arrangement that you'd never advise someone to do - but the builder had just done a large amount of work for a friend and I was comfortable with him.

The kitchen.
Although what is now a study is still often referred to as "the old kitchen"-that's 10 years down the line. Grin

NewHouseNewMe · 17/10/2021 12:19

@alphabetspagetti

In the village where I grew up, the road in & out is known by the locals as "the new road". It was completed in 1926... yes, 95 years ago.
Ha ha. I drove down a road called New Lane recently and not a single house looked less than a century old.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/10/2021 14:52

DD’s kitchen extension (with toys, big dining table, sofa and other non dining chairs) is just called the kitchen.

SageRosemary · 18/10/2021 01:22

The bit out the back is called The Sunroom and DH likes to refer to his bit on the side as The West Wing Wink
