Carpet fitters - should they take the rubbish?

Neighbour recommended them. They were an hour late for the quote and nearly 1hr 30 minutes late this morning. In the end a friend came over for them to finish the job so I could go to work.

Come back to carpet fibres all over the new carpet and hallway and, on my front porch, a roll of carpet remnants and a big sack of underlay off-cuts. Am I right in thinking that the carpet fitters are responsible for taking away this rubbish?

I'm having a difficult day and this is almost the last straw.

If it is the remnants of new carpet and underlay they usually leave this because you have paid for it Wink

I have just renovated my entire house and had carpet fitted throughout. The fitter did not take any rubbish with him at all, I also renovated a few years ago and they didnt then either. I did however purchase my carpet online and had a fitter come in rather than an all in one company like carpet right, so not sure if that makes a difference. Not a big deal just a trip to the tip and saved me ££££ by buying and fitting separately.

They won’t take the left overs

Because you have paid for it

I made mats out of them

MacMahon · 13/10/2021 16:15

You made mats out of bits of underlay?

Yep - you paid for those materials so you get to keep them. We've had 2 new carpets recently and they didn't vacuum the bits. It takes a while and a few emptying of the vacuum's drum

Comefromaway · 13/10/2021 16:16

No, they have always left everything.

Nope Binned that. Mats out of off cuts
Reallyimeanreally2022 · 13/10/2021 16:16

As you can see op

Very normal

MacMahon · 13/10/2021 16:17

Anyway, thanks all. At least I didn't post in AIBU :) Pity that I've now got soggy bits of rubbish in the front garden to get to the tip. I wonder why they didn't leave them inside.

It's a crap fitting too.

PP means mats out of the remaining carpets. We did the same.

No, they didn't take the rubbish as that is leftover material that you paid for. We had loads of off cuts left due to a couple of funny shaped rooms. They did however hoover the actual rooms which was helpful but there was quite a lot of carpet fibres outside and downstairs where we have wooden floors.

Because the amount of fluff on your new carpets would have been enormous
