Searches: Has anyone in London had a 1-3% result for risk of radon? What did you do?

So we've had our environmental searches back and the house we're buying is in an area with moderate risk for radon (many areas in London are). The risk is 1-3% .. whatever that means .... so I wanted to know whether it was a big deal. Do people actually do anything about it?
Lots of properties in London probably get this result but has anyone actually tested their property after recieving this result?

Thanks!!

That means that the risk of the property have radon levels above the action level is between 1% and 3%. It's the lowest level of the medium risk band (which goes up to 10%) and isn't subject to building control regs in England.

UK Radon suggests testing your property - you can buy a kit from them which they'll analyse and produce a report with advice on any remedial actions for you for around £50.

Thanks Ekofisk. I'd love to know if there are people in London who had this result and then tested their property, and then found out:

  • that there was radon
  • that there was no radon and there was nothing to worry about

Anyone??

BTW yes we definitely plan to test our property once we move in but I'm trying to establish whether this should be a concern even before we buy it ...

I wouldn’t be concerned - any remedial measures would be fairly straightforward to implement and not particularly expensive. You’d probably just be looking at increasing subfloor ventilation if you’ve got a cellar or suspended floor.
