Does anyone understand boilers please?

Just that really, our boiler has had a leak, been opened up and it's beyond repair.

I've never needed a new boiler before so don't really know what we're looking for. We were hopefully wanting to move house within the year so trying to think what future buyers might like (or if they'll even be bothered)

We've been quoted 1569 for a vokera excel 29kw with 5yr warranty, 1625 for an alpha etc 28kw with 10 year warranty, 1769 for an ideal logic C30 with an 8 year warranty.

There's also a Worcester Bosch 2000, which would be 1775 for 25kw, or 1929 for 30kw with 5 year warranty, or a veissman vitaman 0-50 29kw 1835 with a 10 year warranty.

We live in a very small 2 bed, 1 bathroom semi detached.

Any advice would be massively appreciated

To be honest I'd go for the cheapest as long as it's big enough for the house, if I was selling in a year. As a buyer the fact that there was a year old boiler with a warranty would make me happy. I wouldn't be bothered about the make.

Exactly this.

Just make sure that you get a reputable fitter and that you get the relevant certificates so that it's all ready when you come to sell.

For the sake of an extra £60 I'd get the alpha with the 10 year guarantee.

Ceebeegee · 13/10/2021 14:48

Makes sense to go with the Alpha for a 10 year guarantee

ProudMaiasaura · 13/10/2021 14:54

If you were planning on staying put I'd be looking at options that factor in the 'net zero' ambitions of the government because they will be legislating against new gas boilers being installed in the next 10 years.

However, as you're moving home I agree that having a cheap functional boiler correctly fitted with a 5 year warranty would be the most sensible plan.

Toastytoads · 13/10/2021 14:58

You need @pigletjohn

Sobloodytired09 · 13/10/2021 15:15

Thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it.

I've only ever heard of Worcester Bosch, but with them being a bit more expensive I thought I had best check.

I might end up getting Which for a month and seeing if the Alpha or Vokera is best

The legislation re gas boilers will only apply to new homes.

Well until at least the mid 2030s if I am remembering correctly...

Sobloodytired09 · 13/10/2021 16:24

Hmm have had a look on which, couldn't find anything for the vokera, the alpha is supposed to be reasonable, WB got great reviews.

There is an ideal esprit that's only £1545 that had good reviews, but only 3 years warranty...

I have a vokera boiler, it came with 7 year guarantee, into its 3rd year, no problems so far ( touch wood !)

Starisnotanumber · 13/10/2021 16:27

Look at Boxt they are usually cheaper than other big firms and you can get an estimate online for the size of boiler appropriate to your house and guarantee period.
Even if you don't go with them it gives you an idea for other quotes

ChequerBoard · 13/10/2021 16:27

Go for the Alpha with a 10 yr warranty - it's not much more than the others and the 'new boiler fitted last year with the balance of a 10 year warranty' will sound good on your listing when you sell.

Alexalee · 13/10/2021 16:30

Are those prices fitted or just the boiler? Seem rather cheap

rejectedcarrit · 13/10/2021 16:40

A second shout out for Boxt - I used them and they were great.

snazzynamechangetiming · 13/10/2021 17:04

Remember warranty is only valid if you service every year. We have an ideal it's been ok so far ( 5 years out of 10) Nothing major needed at services.

snazzynamechangetiming · 13/10/2021 17:05

Are you having a combi as place is small or do you have storage for hot water ?

friendlycat · 13/10/2021 17:22

If it were me I would do the Worcester Bosch as they are good reliable boilers. But it's not a bad idea to do the Which best buy comparison. I've done the join for £1 for the month and then cancelled after that period.

Sobloodytired09 · 13/10/2021 18:11

Thank you all

@Starisnotanumber we had a look at boxt, one of the shortlisted ones is from there. They have great reviews

@Alexalee yes that is fitted

@snazzynamechangetiming we were getting a combi as we had a combi before, but also we don't have the space for a tank
