Anyone done their own underfloor insulation?

I live in a draughty Victorian terrace with suspended timber floor. Currently floorboards but DH keen to get luxury vinyl stuff down.

I'd quite like to put insulation underneath first, it's proving impossible to get anyone to quote for it though! Has anyone done it? Is it something DH and I could do bit by bit in the evenings? We have a toddler around so couldn't do in the day.

Has anyone done it themselves?

We have in the garage but not Victorian we laid a damp proof membrane on top of concrete base and then thick insulation slab thingys. When I say we it was DP 😂 What is under your floor? Just be careful of damp but I assume you could DIY it’ll just be a faff if you have to rip up the floor yourselves.

I have a friend who did their entire ground floor and we're considering the same. It's a lot of work so expect it to take a lot longer than planned but it's not technically difficult if you're basically handy.

My bf has done it himself. It takes time though and you need to be careful when cutting and placing it around any wires/pipes etc. Also number your floorboards when taking them up so you don't forget where they go. It's hard work but doable.

Just to say he's not a tradesman and hasn't done it before. As long as you're handy/patient, it works.

DH did ours
Victorian house
We have a decent crawl space but DH did have to crawl with a head torch. We cut hatches in each room to make it easier to access each room.
We used sheep's wool insulation - ordered in in batts the same width as the gap between joists.
It was then pushed into place and the he staplegunned plastic strapping underneath to make sure it didn't drop.
It was done one room at a time on weekends.
It wasn't a nice job but we are very glad he did it as it made a big difference.
