Wardrobe Damp

We have fitted wardrobes on an external granite wall (I know this is a stupid idea, we didn't fit them but are stuck with them for the moment!). They are a nightmare for getting damp. Have done all the usual things, opened doors, moisture traps, small dehumidifier in wardrobe, ventilate room etc but not any better. Thinking about putting a couple of 40w wardrobe heaters in. Wondered if this is worthwhile or if anyone has any better suggestions?

We inherited fitted wardrobes with this house in 2 rooms- the wall outside is render (roughcast type) over brick. One lot are already out, because in that room I don't need any- result, room no longer smells fusty. Even though there was no actual damp, and only the end was an outside wall, they must have made the room fusty. Behind them was unskimmed plasterboard, we had it skimmed.
The chipboard shelving from the wardrobes still smell fusty even though it has been kept in the garage (which doesn't smell) for about 2 years.

I'll be taking out the ones in the other room, which smell fusty inside, and having it plastered, and put in in freestanding ones, though I'd have preferred fitted ones- I don't want to risk it even though the back is an inside wall, the side, like the other one, isn't.

To be fair, there was no actual mold in either, and another fitted wardrobe in one of the same rooms that really was all on an outer wall was fine- but that wall had been properly plastered behind first.

I'm not sure heating would help- you'd need ventilation as well, or you'd just get a sauna in there, great for breeding mold.

I open all the wardrobe doors every day so ventilation shouldn't be an issue. I have also removed a lot of stuff from the wardrobes that should hopefully help with air circulation too.

Would probably be worth a try, then, as any other solution would be much more complicated/expensive.
Good luck, I hope it works. Do let us know!

Could you just take the doors off? Then there's constant ventilation.

They are open all the time, except when my son is in our room. He is autistic and they need to be closed when he is in or he tries to climb or pull everything out so we need the option to be able to close them.
