...do you have Chrome or Brushed Steel taps?

I had thought Stainless Steel tap, but I want one with a pull out spray (not the industrial look ones) and it must be single lever. This narrows things down drastically and the few I've found seem to be brushed steel which looks quite golden compared to a stainless steel sink.

For context, kitchen fronts are light grey shaker and I am planning on polished nickel cup handles and pulls. So I'm worried a chrome tap will look completely out of place.

Sink will be undermount in white calacatta quartz.

I love the warmth of the nickel hardware, but my goodness it would be far simpler if I'd just chosen Chrome.

Honestly, I'm not even sure! I think it's chrome.

This is one of those decisions that I agonised over for ages when I put my kitchen in, but don't even notice now.

I'm having a stainless steel undermount sink with a brushed brass tap and cabinet handles. Dh slightly concerned, but I think it'll look fab. Worktops will be white quartz with a slight vein.

Sink brushed stainless steel, original tap was chrome, replaced it after six years with a brushed SS one as that was what was available in an appropriate shape. Turns out to make no aesthetic difference, wouldn't worry about it.

I have a brushed steel sink and a brushed steel tap. To my eye they are exactly the same colour!! In fact I was told by a bathroom adviser that brushed steel is always the same colour (whereas brass and nickel vary a lot).

I wonder if it’s the angle that makes it look more golden?

PS I also have brushed nickel handles, brushed nickel is a little warmer than brushed steel but not so you’d notice really.

If you are having a brushed steel sink and polished nickel handles I think either a brushed steel or a chrome tap will be fine.

Glad I'm not the only person who's overthought this.

I do love online shopping but for things like this I really wish you could go and choose things in person. (I went to several showrooms when I was choosing the bathroom taps etc and the displays were limited at best).

Thanks for all the feedback. I have actually just realised that among the many many boxes stacked up I do have a stainless steel sink (for the utility) and some chrome taps (for the bathroom) and I have one of the polished nickel handles, so I'll pop them all together and see how it looks.

Undermount brushed steel sink, quartz worktops (can't remember the name; something from Silestone) and a chrome mixer tap.

That said I think a brushed steel tap would look better as the extractor fan and our ovens/microwave are also brushed steel. As are the door handles on our cabinets and the fridge freezer has a brushed steel look. Can't say it bothers me though.

Mine came from Grohe and is exactly as you describe.

@LittleOverWhelmed, where is your sink from please? Is the main bowl large enough to soak oven shelves?

@LittleOverWhelmed that's good to know as I've checked the dimensions of the main bowl and its the same size as the single bowl one I have in mind. (I avoid washing up at all costs so only having one bowl to leave space for my 2nd dishwasher).

How do you get on with the very square edges? I love the look but worry that it wouldn't drain well and I'd spend my life cleaning debris (we have 3 kids under 5 so my entire philosophy through this extension has been about keeping things easy).

@Wallywobbles I have seen the Grohe ones and they are lovely. I should have added that the other criteria was budget (end of a massive refurb/extension) but I think I might have to suck that one up. Is yours one of these:

There is also a nice Clearwater one too at that price point and I even just found a nickel one. I guess crux is that steel is more expensive than Chrome.

Do you have drawers under your sink? I'm a bit nervous about whether the counter weight will interfere with them but I'm hoping not since they aren't full depth drawers.

We do have one like that too but our shower head one isn't a high one. I'd always buy Grohe taps. I bought all mine gradually when i saw them on sale. Long before the kitchen and bathrooms actually happened. Bizarrely mostly on Amazon or Venteprivé sites.

@minipie how do you find the square corners? Does it drain well or are you constantly cleaning it?

The corners aren’t an issue. Because it’s large though I do sometimes need to swoosh water round it to get all the bits to the drain - which is easy as we have a hose tap. Wouldn’t want a big sink without a hose tap, for this reason.
