Electric stove?

After reading wood burner thread on AIBU ( was already having doubts about wood burner but DP obsessed) am thinking of an electric stove. Does anyone have one? Any recommendations?

Is that one a choice because you can see the ‘flames’ because another choice is an Everhot?I don’t have the small one ( have a 110i ) but people are very pleased with them on the Everhot discussion page and you can cook in them.

NancyIris · 11/10/2021 07:30

Thanks! Yes DP grieving real wood burner so would like to see flames I think!

I have a Dimplex Opti myst stove and it has the most realistic flames (created by water vapour).

Is it expensive to run @maofteens ? I'm thinking of getting this one

Thanks for recommendations. DP still set on log burner so debate is raging. But I don’t think we can justify it know I know about environmental and health effects.

I am looking for an electric stove with realistic flame effect but also small log store underneath so DP can console himself with small wood stack.

I’ve lived in a few places with electric stoves and feel they are so far from the real thing as to be a complete waste of money.

Either get the real thing or you may as well all sit warming your toes infront of the radiator.

NancyIris · 20/10/2021 06:06

Yes this is my worry too. I am concerned electric stoves may look odd/tacky in comparison to a wood burner. I can’t unread what I have read about log burners though!

To be blunt electric ones are shit we had a gas one looked the same and proper flames .

That thread was not great tbh. Who wrote the report, who are they backed by, has the report been critically analysed ?

With a wood burner you get 100% recyclable product that can be melted down at the end of its life and re-used. With an electric version you get a box of plastic that's hard to recycle due to the mix of materials in manufacturing. With the price of energy as it is and soaring you won't be able to afford to switch it on to see the fake flames.

Proper wood burners use so little wood it's amazing. I've gone from using maybe 6 seasoned logs on an open fire to 2 per night with a wood burner. So I'm releasing far less carbon. The burners being cast iron store the heat and remain hot for hours after going out. If you have one of those thermal fans sitting on top there are claims that it improves efficiency by about 18%.

HermioneAndRoger · 20/10/2021 19:38

The mini Everhot stoves really are lovely and give out decent heat. I like the fact that they aren’t pretending to be anything that they aren’t. Fake flames are never quite right.

NancyIris · 23/10/2021 08:33

www.everhot.co.uk/Everhot-Electric-Stove.aspx These ones? Yes I see what you mean. I like the colours too. Are they expensive to run? It mentions a heating element - is this a fan heater or is it quiet? Get the impression some of the ones with flames are just tarted-up fan heaters?

I’ve been grappling with the same thing and seriously considered an opti myst. In the end however I’ve decided on an eco friendly wood burner.

AnnaMagnani · 23/10/2021 09:05

I have an Everhot cooker rather than the stove and it definitely isn't expensive to run. Also looks really cute.

Sadly there is no such thing as an ecofriendly woodburner and as the owner of a woodburner, I find it a pain in the arse, all the lighting, poking about, cleaning.

Given the choice again I'd probably put an Everhot stove in. Fake flames always look fake.

Tagcurious · 23/10/2021 09:11

Some are better than others. The one I have chosen uses less fuel, hence eco friendly.

I see a lot of people complaining about the optimist vapour generator not working.
Tagcurious · 23/10/2021 16:49

I saw the same thing @PigletJohn.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/10/2021 16:54

They are based on DEFRA figures chocolateorangeinhaler.

Domestic combustion created 47,000 tonnes of PM2.5 pollution in 2019
More than 41,000 of this (88 per cent) comes from wood-burning stoves
This accounts for more than 38% of all PM2.5 particles made in the UK in 2019
In 2019, 13,000 tonnes of PM2.5 were made by road vehicles in the UK, less than a third of that from wood-burner stoves.

PigletJohn · 23/10/2021 17:41

I formerly had a multifuel Morso, they are cleaner than simple wood-burners, and I understand (I don't follow this closely) that some clean-burning stoves will be approved for installation.

Floralnomad · 23/10/2021 17:48

We have a gas stove , I wanted the look of a wood burner but not an actual wood burner as I have lung disease and they really affect my breathing ( which is already pretty compromised) . We don’t use it often but it looks the part and is lovely when lit . It’s a Broseley Hereford and is exactly the same outside as their wood burner just fitted for gas .

fakelondoner · 23/10/2021 19:22

I’ve just ordered a bio ethanol stove that is actually a proper wood burner that has been repurposed. You can even get a kit to convert it back to a wood burner (though I won’t be doing that for environmental and health reasons mentioned by PP).

NancyIris · 27/10/2021 22:19

Ordered an Everhot. Looking forward to it arriving! Need to get fireplace knocked out first. Thank you for the recommendation.

drury7thedition · 27/10/2021 22:23

I’ve ordered an optimyst stove tonight 😂. My sister has got one in a really old fireplace and it looks ace.

Is the everhot the one with the little oven? I think I’ve looked at every option available to man.

drury7thedition · 27/10/2021 22:34

Oh, just googled it and yes, they’re really beautiful OP, and functional.

I wanted flame rather than heat, fake all the way with the mist effect.

I don’t miss the mess of a wood burner/solid fuel aga. I’ve got a fairly new house, really well insulated etc so I don’t need to worry about the heat particularly, although I’ll use it in spring/autumn rather than putting the heating on.

ACR have won loads of design awards for their electric stoves like this one.

NancyIris · 27/10/2021 22:35

Yes like a dinky electric AGA.
