Is this mould??

This is in our bedroom, can be seen okay in the photos but in real life it's only when you really look at the wall you can see it. I have searched everywhere to see a source or if there is a large mould spot and this is it spreading but can't find anything. It's on the two walls beside our window as well as starting on a wall on the other side of the room near the bed (so not attached to an outside walls at all).
If it is, does anyone know the best treatment?

Is there lining paper on the walls under the paint. It does look like mould which established under lining paper,Chad that problem in my flat, had to strip paper, treat mould and re line.

Yes, this looks like the early stages of condensation mould we get on our walls. To treat it I've used Cillit mould remover spray and a good scrub. On areas where it had penetrated the plasterboard and painted skim layer quite deeply it left some residual brownish/greyish dotty staining so we repainted those bits. We had to really look at ventilation and moisture management in the house to stop it being a long term problem

I should add, this occurred on insulated plasterboard that we had installed on external walls.

My guess would be mould due to condensation as well.

Thank you all! We have an en-suite shower so I think it's likely due to that. I keep telling my partner to shut the bathroom door after so the steam doesn't get out to the rest of the house and instead the fan and open window get it but he was convinced that keeping the door open let it all air out a lot better!

Oh I have this "discussion" with my DH all the time. He thinks we should leave the en-suite door open so that the en-suite doesn't get mouldy, even though the entire en-suite is wipeable and it's painted with anti-mould paint. Doesn't seem to understand that the moisture doesn't disappear if you open the door, just most of it goes in the bedroom instead.

if you've got an extractor fan, use the sodding thing.

if you haven't, get one.

😂 we do have an extractor fan, and the window in the bathroom is open almost 24/7

No need to be so rude 😂

Dehumidifier, maybe?
We have a fan in our shower. Our surveyor wasn't impressed, said it wasn't adequate. We put a dehumidifier in the utility opposite for the laundry, and it seems to work for both rooms- but we will replace the fan when we 'do' the shower room.
I find it's the paste behind the paper that tends to hold damp, rather than the paper itself. I strip the paper, and then get every scrap of paste off the wall with a sponge and scranlet to clean plaster, then paint. That was the end of the problem on the wall of a room open to the shower room.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/10/2021 16:53

Your extractor fan will be more efficient with the window and door of the ensuite closed.

PigletJohn is a mine of information on this sort of thing - I sense exasperation rather than rudeness in his post.
