Do you mean Hailsham? If so, I grew up near there and my parents still live nearby.

Hailsham is fairly mixed and I would say how much you would like it would depend on where you are coming from. Some people think it is incredibly rough and wouldn't dream of living there and other people think it's ok. What I mean by this is if you are coming from a city you probably think it's fine and if you are coming from a small village, you probably won't like it. Pre living in London I would have said it was rough but after I wouldn't so much. It's definitely not a lovely area in my opinion. But it certainly isn't terrible. It doesn't have the same small town/villagey feel as in a lot of East Sussex.

Recently there has been some problems with a few families in one of the new build estates (can't remember which one of the top of my head). Nothing dreadful but noise complaints, minor damage to cars, etc.

The actual town centre has a good range of shops for a little town and it is easy reach of bigger towns such as Eastbourne. The leisure centre was great when I was growing up and I went swimming there most weeks.

Hailsham is a good shopping town for round here. I'd rather move 15 minutes down the road and live in Eastbourne though.

Both seem fair descriptions. I work in Hailsham. Lovely countryside around it. I don't think much of the shopping to be honest but it's not far from Eastbourne.

Probably a bit cheaper than some places as no railway link.

NC for this, but I've lived here nearly all my life. The area you describe is very new. So it all looks very nice and pretty. There is grumbling locally about more houses being built than the infra structure can cope with. The land it was built on used to get very wet (not quite flooding but very big puddles) I know because there used to be a maze of footpaths where I walked my dog. I would like to assume that they have put appropriate plumbing in as the cuckmere river likes to burst it's banks every now and again.
There are a couple of new schools but not yet enough doctors.
The community centre is lovely and does a lot of activities for all age groups. Building houses is ongoing around here so it's changed a lot in my lifetime.
High Street shopping is not great but there are some quirky little shops. Tesco and Waitrose are the main supermarkets. Iceland too.
Easy travel to Eastbourne/Brighton/Tunbridge Well.
Easy ish access to some beautiful countryside and the beach.
There is some anti social behaviour but probably better than many places and no worse than most.
Very Conservative and Brexity. Sorry. Not guilty. Also, predominantly white, though slowly becoming more diverse.
Decent bus service. Nearest train station is Polegate. Hour and a half to London.
I like it here, but you'd probably get more value for money in Eastbourne.
