Do I need planning permission to reduce the windows in a conservatory? Or add a roof lantern in the kitchen?

When we moved in it already had a solid roof

Adding walls would be useful and I think I need building regs to convert it into a downstairs shower room and utility room

Do I need planning permission to add a roof lantern into a flat roof of the kitchen?

I'll be increasing insulation in the conservatory but reducing in the kitchen - any hints or tips

One of the reason I didn’t add a solid roof onto mine was because I was told the foundations of the conservatory were not built to with stand a proper roof. Did it have all the proper paperwork for this when u moved in.
I would think adding proper walls would make it a building in which case I would assume u would need planning.

I couldn’t change the doors into it or add heating that was attached to the actual house heating. We are now moving and all these things came up on the paperwork to be check off when we had bits about it.

It has external doors between the house and the conservatory and heating on the main central heating system

Planning permission may not be needed; it depends on the size of the existing conservatory and your local authority rules, and whether you are in a conservation area etc etc. Best to ask the local planning department.

HOWEVER you will need Building Regulations approval to turn a conservatory into a 'room' of any kind.

This might be helpful www.everest.co.uk/planning-permission/do-you-need-planning-permission-for-a-conservatory/

Adding a bathroom /shower room will also almost certainly need Building Regulations approval, too. Again, this might help www.toptradespeople.co.uk/building-regulations/bathroom-building-regulations-guide

It would be wise to have a survey to check the strength of the existing conservatory structure before thinking of making any changes.

Building Regulations are very important; they not only help to make sure that any work is safe - for you and the local surroundings - but if you ever come to sell your property, and cannot prove that you got Building Regulations approval for the sort of changes you are planning , many would-be purchasers might walk away.

Oh yes BR are essential my dad was a structural engineer and a real stickler for following the rules

I'll get in touch with the planning first
