If you’re in your 40s, how big is your mortgage?

I’m nearing 40 and mine is the largest it’s ever been. Thinking of remortgaging in a few years to get the rest of the house done.

How big is yours? And is it harder to get the loan once you’re a bit, ahem, older?

Currently 270k, but soon to be 330k as we are converting our loft to make 4th bedroom. Have around 150k of equity in the house and should have around 180k after the conversion. Not that it matters as we’re tied to London until we retire when we’ll downsize somewhere cheaper and clear the mortgage. All being well that is.

Just about to turn 40 and mortgage free due to DH (10 years older) losing both parents and using the inheritance to pay it off. But we're in a flat with 2 DC and looking to move and will take on a small mortgage to do so. Sadly we can't sell our flat at the moment.

I’m 34, dh is 43. We paid ours off nearly 2 years ago. If we still had it now it would have been £1526 a month, owing about 320k ish

47 and mortgage free for some time now, because our modest first home ended up being our forever home, somewhat unexpectedly!

Luckily managed to pay mine off early about 4 years ago. I was 41

Late 40’s and mortgage is around £200k (with equity of around £250k). 12 years left to go on the mortgage. It’s my forever home, so only reason it could increase if is I borrow more for the last couple of things I’d like to do here.

I love my house, but covering the costs on my own isn’t easy! And I really feel for people trying to get onto the property ladder nowadays.

35 and 43 y/o. Approx £185k left over 21 years, monthly repayments £1k, equity approx £70k. Household income approx £80k.

So not ideal but we manage and have a good lifestyle (we’re in the North).

Also - no work to be done, nice 4 bed, large rooms, on the coast. We’ll prob downsize in about 15 years.

Late forties and ours is £1300 a month but we also over pay on top of that to £2k. Don't expect to pay it off - expect to move out of London instead.
