Two months in to process and Seller wants to wait till after Christmas to move

I don't know if I am unlucky, if seller is unreasonable or if I am just naive.
Offered accepted two months ago and we have been cracking on with things. Seller had their offer accepted on an empty house a few weeks later.
Our house sale is on track and infact our buyers have sold already and pressurised us to drop the price so they could go in to rented. All fine.
Today find out Seller is dragging his feet and wants to move after Christmas.
I worry our buyer will not be happy and ask for a further reduction and that we will need to go in to rented to prevent this and keep everything on track.
Was I stupid to assume that if someone put their house on the market they actually wanted to move in the standard 3 ish months.
Is he unreasonable?
I'm so frustrated and disappointed.

He's not unreasonable! What a pillock

Bigfathairyones · 04/10/2021 18:26

Seriously unreasonable of the seller.

thisplaceisapigsty · 04/10/2021 18:29

He is totally unreasonable.

friendlycat · 04/10/2021 18:31

I can understand how frustrated and fed up you are. So would I be in your situation.

It wouldn't be too unrealistic if we were in early December but we are in the first week of October and they want to delay basically by another 3 months. This really is not on.

I would speak to the Estate Agent involved and try and get all this back on track as I can't imagine others in the chain are happy with this situation and your seller may just be trying it on.

I have previously moved on 17th December which was basically the last Friday before Christmas so there is literally loads of time between now and Christmas and they are being completely unreasonable.
Good luck.

PotteringAlong · 04/10/2021 18:32

Just say no! That’s completely unreasonable. And his chain might fall apart because of it if your buyer says no and pulls out.

PaterPower · 04/10/2021 18:35

It’s a strongish market - I wouldn’t feel under pressure to drop your price again if you do have to delay.

But yes, the seller is being unreasonable.

EL8888 · 04/10/2021 18:40

They are unreasonable. Sounds like a guy further up our chain who is a total pain and keeps moving the goal posts. Say no to him. It’s only the first week in October!!!

potas · 04/10/2021 18:45

Thank you. They say we mentioned going in to rented. But was mentioned in passing at the original viewing and as they quickly found a house we just assumed would all progress together. Thats why we feel stupid - should never assume anything

Oh that's awful, and yes on the face of it it's quite unreasonable.

The joys of a chain trying to balance everyone's wants and needs - having just completed a chain of 6 it wasn't exactly easy.

Don't feel stupid at all, unfortunately you never know what is going on in the minds of buyers and sellers.

WallaceinAnderland · 04/10/2021 19:27

Don't go into rented. I don't know why you dropped your price to pay for your buyers rent, I would never have done that. Tell the seller to get on with it or you will look elsewhere.

Jasmine11 · 04/10/2021 20:17

Another one wondering why you agreed to drop the price for the buyers to go into rented? Is your house hard to sell/been on the market a while? It's annoying of the seller for sure but if you really want the house it'll be worth the wait and if your buyers don't like that (which you couldn't blame them for), then you'll have to go back on the market unfortunately. Whatever you do don't pay for your buyers rented accommodation!

I think because we are naive idiots who felt pressure from the estate agents to keep things on track. It wasn't a big reduction.
