People who offer you a kitchen "at no cost" in return for being in brochure

You know the kind of thing. Bored woman rings up, does spiel, says your postcode has been specially selected (yeah, right) and you can have a kitchen installed at no cost to "yourselves" (*) in return for having it featured in their brochure.

Has anyone ever taken them up on it from a cold-call? What actually happens?

Incidentally what I say to get rid of them is:
"We've got a perfectly nice kitchen, thanks so I'm not really interested, I don't want to waste your time" (rather than vice-versa).

(*) Why, why WHY do they always say "yourselves"?? Why not "you"?

Well....when you go to the next stage of the calling they usually inform you, that tehre are no promises that your Kitchen will be selected to go into the brochure...which in effects means that you may well end up having to pay it afterall....cheap trick, isn't it!

I suspected as much, which is why I always say no!

Me too, now...but at one point I thought, oh sounds good and all that, then when I got put through to another departement that tells you the "smallprint" it came out that there was no guaranty of a free Kitchen, which was when I said...NO THANK YOU....

And there was only actually a discount, not free. And you had to decide there and then whilst the consultant (not a salesman, oh no!) was in your house... or forgo the discount.

Yes. You pay for it first and then if it goes in the brochure (it won't) you get your money back (you won't)

DH worked for Space Kitchens for a very short time several years ago. He did not enjoy the work, the managers attitudes, arriving at what he was told was a person interested in buying - only to discover they thought they had won a prize of a free kitchen.. he also didn't much care for all the reasons why he wasn't going to get any commission on yet another kitchen he had managed to sell.

And when he left, he didn't enjoy not getting the money back for his 'kit' that he returned to them.

Oh - and salesmen were bollocked if they didn't complete their FOUR HOUR PITCH in someone's house.

That's why they won't leave your house you know...they get their arse kicked at the office for not bullying the householder into submission!

I used to sell double glazing with a pitch like this

Me - Hello random person I've just interrupted in the middle of their dinner. How would you like all your windows replaced for free?

Customer - Ooh yes please. (gets excited, agrees to make appointment for salesman to call and harass them discuss their requirements). Realises later on that basically you have photos taken etc and one person goes in the marketing and gets theirs refunded.
