Help me remodel my fireplace

I have a 50s fireplace. It's not flat to the wall (has "wings") and the surround at the bottom tilts upwards away from the floor. It's ugly (please don't tell me how beautiful and original it is - it's not and it's also off centre on the chimney breast wall due to gas pipe boxing in) and I want to make it prettier, but not ready yet to knock it down and rebuild, rather just want to make it look nicer for a year or so.

I have thoughts of painting, tile-stickers for, spraying, etc etc. Long term it will have a wooden mantle and basic surround.

We won't be using it but don't want to stop it being usable, if that makes sense.

Please hit me with your remodel ideas. I have exhausted Pinterest and need some sensible views.

Many thanks in advance! Grin

Paint it black, and make a statement with it.

Matt, not shiny.

The new photos still aren’t very good. I can’t see where the chimney breast is or how far the slate flooring extends. How off centre is it?
To fix the off centre, put a new longer mantlepiece or bit of wood across to even it up. Use tall plants either side of the fireplace on the slate floor but have one further to the edge than the other.
I quite like the fireplace, though.

Well, what colour are your walls (particularly the chimney breast wall) and what is either side of the fireplace.

Stand back in front of it and take a picture of the whole wall. (Not sure why you haven’t!)

How you coordinate it or disguise it really depends on what else is going on around it.

If you like your tv stand, I'd consider a totally modern fireplace. It'll suit the look a bit more?

What's your budget like (sorry, not RTFT

The bricks are nice. It’s the mantle which ruins it, along with it’s weird position on the wall too.

sand the mantle and paint a suitable whiteish colour Along with the dark side lines.
What is it say on? That looks really unmatched.

If you're not using it you could box it and then paint/vinyl in whatever you want. Just Google DIY faux fireplace, some of them look pretty good and you could center it too

B-I-L had very good results with stone effect paint if that helps.

I’m a weirdo, but I love it! Personally, I’d give the tiles a really good clean, then change the dark wood elements for light wood.
