How is the housing market near you now?

I think there have been a couple of these threads on here before about the market being red hot, houses selling very rapidly during the housing move in the last 18 months.

In my area things have slowed somewhat in the past few months but the very desirable properties are still selling quickly. There are definitely more reductions than there were on overpriced or less desirable properties.

Can I ask how things are in your area of the country? Stamp duty holiday finally ending this month and the economic outlook seems poor so perhaps things will slow now.

Lots of overpriced properties & reductions. Anything good at the right price is selling but new listings seem to be lower priced

I personally think things could look quite different next yr when we see the true impact of inflation, furlough & SD ending & rising living costs & taxes.

We are planning to move next year & I'm happy to take an offer if what we buy is similar but just worried not much will be available.

Desirable house still moving very quickly here

South east here, 50 min to London. Every single house that went on the market since Monday is now under offer. Lots of places being sold before they are even advertised. So glad I bought last year, I couldn't afford my house now.

Very little coming on in my town, it’s a desirable area but nothing fancy. There are literally 3 houses under 500k still unsold. Average sized town, South East, has n London commuter belt.

An agent phoned the other day seeing if I was interested in selling. Obviously they’re getting short of work as no one is coming on the market.

Nearby towns are probably slightly less nice but very little desirable houses coming on. Some really bad ones (in known trouble spot estates) coming on at high prices.

I'm looking here in NE. Nothing coming on right now and what does goes in days. Prices up 20% since Feb too.

buttermutt · 02/10/2021 12:50

Do you think a lot has been driven by people relocating to other areas to be closer to family &/or increased opportunity to remote work?
I read that FTBs left London in record numbers to buy, I don't blame them. I've been saying for a few yrs that if I was young now I would skip the flat stage & look for a house further out.

JuneOsborne · 02/10/2021 12:54

You can't even view a house if you're not proceedable here.

House on at the top end of the price bracket for that type of property have well over 10 offers within 48 hours and then sell for over asking.

And the prices keep going up and up.

Porfre · 02/10/2021 12:55

Anything decent is being snapped up in days. But very little coming to market.

In Manchester. Anything nice sold over asking price in days. I’d say prices are up at least 15% this year

I'm in the South East trying to move out. The house market in this country is bouncing back after the pandemic last year. I rarely see houses that are for sale anymore however on my drives or on nature walks out and about. Nothing new listed in property magazines etc either. I may have to look further afield in order to find a house that I will truly love.
