Kitchen worries

I've waited 11 years for a new kitchen. Mine has fallen apart and is basically... a shithole.
It's very small. Not big enough for a family of 5. But, it is all I have, so I need to make the most of it.
I've attached pictures of the current kitchen layout, and the new potential layout. I am not happy with the plans sent to me today, and wanted some opinions.
I am considering not having the oven tower, as it looks like it is dominating the area. Given I really do want the additional sideboard and cupboards on the opposite side, I think this may be for the best? I will ask them do go back and do the exact layout of the current kitchen on the right hand side (oven under hob, extra wall cupboards x2, drawers in current location) other than the dishwasher integrated next to the washing machine (they've placed it on the opposite side). Will this look better and be more practical? I need sideboards and lots of storage. I've had to compromise on no bigger fridge freezer Sad.
I am planning to make an airing cupboard under the stairs just outside the kitchen, this will house the dryer, the boiler is already under there. This means the cupboard at the end of the kitchen will have to house the hoover, ironing board, iron, mop etc. I am also intending to change the back door to open in to the garden. We don't really use that door, as we have patio doors, so I'm not concerned about the space being narrow to pass through.
Please help. I've waited so long for this! I wanted to extend or create a kitchen diner, but this isn't financially possible. So I've got to work with this!

The room dimensions are 1.76m (widens to 2.26m at the back of room) x 3.95m.

Hi - this looks tricky so can see why you need to get it right! Who did the plans for you? (I don't think they're great tbh) Can you get others? Most places will do free plans so it's worth going to a few different stores to gather ideas and opinions if you have time?

Howdens did this one, but I'm going in on Friday to go over the plan, with the changes I mentioned above. I will go to other places, yes.

Is ikea near you?
They may have some good tips for space saving stuff in the cupboards? Although they stick out a bit more.
Also try DIY kitchens... On line planner when you get the hang of things.
Same as you op, my current kixthen I inherited from about two previous owners! It must me at least 24 years old.

We went to magnet, ikea, b and q, homebase... And finally brought it off DIY website and I much preferred the freedom of seeing exactly what was there and totally transparent prices.

Hmm..it is tricky as the space is narrow. I know you said you can't afford an extension but is there no way to knock through? Or is this already an extension on the back? Do you know which walls are structural in your house?
It seems silly to spend a lot of money on something that doesn't really address your main problems.
If there's no way of opening it up, start thinking creatively about other areas it connects to. Do you have a dining room adjoining it somewhere?
So my kitchen is quite small but opens onto another room. We realised the space behind the door in the other room was just over 60cm but fairly 'dead space' so I have a full run of worktop almost 4m there and under it there are two integrated freezers, an extra fridge and my washing machine and couple of cupboards to hold everything up. It is handleless with wooden worktop so it looks like a big sideboard and above it we have a big TV and corner sofa opposite to give us another sitting area.
We are not in the freezers all the time so not inconvenient and they were under £100 each but hold loads.
It meant my small kitchen only needs an under counter fridge allowing me uninterrupted worktop and the space feels bigger.
I have a shed with electric a couple of steps from backdoor so the tumble dryer went in there.

Your other option is to turn the back door into a window if you have patio doors out to garden. Then you could move the sink round to create a decent run of worktop and leave the other side empty like it is now so it doesn't feel narrow

And second DIY. They do a great choice of sizes e.g 45cm cupboards and different depths. Really helpful in small spaces where every cm counts.
I really liked IKEA but the 20/40/80 options just didn't work in my space

I fitted a similar width kitchen and used wall unit depth units as base units on one side for extra work space (as your sideboard) and it has worked very well however I didnt put any wall cupboards/high units on that side, only on the side with normal width work surface. I used same work top all round the u shaped kitchen but obviously narrow work top on one side. It looks so much more spacious without the wall cupboards and has loads of very usable storage beneath.
