Hi,
Hoping you can see floor plans attached?
This is our down stairs. It currently feels very disjointed and rooms don’t flow very well. Any suggestions as to how you would rearrange / open up lay out?
Thanks 😊

I'd take the WC out of the office for a start.
The main issue that you have is that the utility and the kitchen are separated from each other.
Do you intend to keep the rooms uses as they are?

What is the room next to the utility?

RandomMess · 29/09/2021 21:50

I would remove WC Office & Utility become one large lounge.

The other half becomes kitchen diner utility.

What is in the ensuite.

Current layout seems a little crazy

Hi,
Thanks for all the responses.

Yes current lay out is really not the best! We are open to a complete shift around of rooms if needs be.

We have ripped WC out of office space. The en-suite is called that because when we bought the house they were advertising office as an additional bedroom.

The room next to utility is currently used as a dining area / play room. It’s an extension on the back of the house with the utility room. Feels very much like it has been plonked on back of house for extra space without much thought as to how rooms work!

Was considering knocking through kitchen to the dining room extension but feel it would create an odd shaped kitchen / diner which I’m not sure would work 🤔

What about knocking the kitchen and front lounger together to make a big kitchen/diner/ family room.
The playroom could then be your utility and include a toilet and then knock the utility through to the office and have a large living room.

here is one option. blue marks walls to remove & red marks walls to build. So this gives you

L = big living room
K = big kitchen / dining room with doors to garden
O = small office for quiet work
U = big utility room / boot room / general storage

you could make the office bigger and the utility smaller if that suits.

Do you need the office? I’d think about moving the kitchen into there, next to the utility room. Then knocking the lounge into the old kitchen and making a big lounge.

Yep - I do what @Lorddenning1 suggests. Great username by the way!

Purplewithred · 29/09/2021 22:43

Blimey, that is quite some layout.

I’d do what @parietal says, with the addition of turning that ‘ensuite’ into a downstairs loo and reclaiming some of the space for a hallway, if that’s doable. If you can;;t move the kitchen (might be expensive with the plumbing) then I’d swop parietal’s kitchen and lounge around.

Thank you everyone some really helpful suggestions! We will give it some thought!
