Jackdaws in Roof

We have a ventilation slot running along the slide of the house just under the tile roof and jackdaws have got in to nest.

We had took advice from a reputable roofer and he put in special 'bird wire' to stop them coming in. The jackdaws had that out within three days.

The roofer then replaced it with stronger fittings and a week or so later, the jackdaws have pulled the whole thing out again.

This is an expensive problem and we are at a loss as to what should be done. The RSPB are not answering their 'phones.

Does anyone have knowledge of what can be done? The birds will be a fire hazard (nest) and bring mites etc., to the roof.

I would be grateful for any help!

First I'd try a different roofer and ask for advice.

I had jackdaws in my chimney, initially had a standard birdguard put up which the jackdaws laughed at.

Different chimney guy was v clear that they were rubbish for jackdaws and my chimney is now like Fort Knox and no more jackdaws.

So basically you need someone, preferably who spends a lot of time working on old houses in the countryside as we are plagued with them, who knows their jackdaws.

Or you could just ignore the jackdaws. I'd have lived with mine but every now and then one would go down the chimney and get trapped in the house.

My friend rescues jackdaws. They are suprisingly strong (had a few nips from them). You need something strong or they'll undo it for fun. Maybe metal vent covers screwed into the brickwork?

Thanks to AnnaMagnani and Treecreature for your replies.

We now think the jackjaws are gaining access under the tiles, which are pantiles, so very 'curvy'

The RSPB are now contactable and have suggested that we fill gaps with concrete.

Hopefully, the roofer will be able to sort the problem out.......

Thanks for your help.
