Selling woes....everything I touch turns to shite

We exchanged today and will complete next week. I managed to spill a whole tin of masonry paint over the patio whilst trying to clear the shed, luckily noticed it before I got the bag into the house and have managed to get most of it up.
Pulled out dishwasher and washing machine and cant believe the state of the walls behind... plaster falling off. Buyer has had a specialist damp survey but he was here literally 10 mins and I'm not sure he even checked the kitchen. Victorian Terrace.
Took my eye off my 2yr old grandson for a second and he drew all over my UPVC windowsills in the sharpie I was using to label boxes. Managed to lift it with the help of Google and you cannot see it all now.
Put a note on the font door for Amazon and when DH pulled it off a patch of paint came off, really noticeable. I bought a small tin of green gloss to touch up, also for other chips....completely the wrong shade....DH asked if I'd let grandson paint the door?
I feel so guilty. I'm up to my eyeballs but should I make time to completely re-paint the front door?
House value has gone up at least £20K - £30K since offer accepted.

Oh, I feel for you! No, I think at this stage you just need to let these things go now and allow them to be your buyers’ problems. I’m sure the bargain price they’ve secured your property at will help sweeten the pill!

Bonitalazenia · 24/09/2021 11:17

@umbel thank you!

None of my business, but it's a bit hard on you to be looking after a grandchild in the middle of a house move! Can you not just tape him into a box Grin

leakymcleakleak · 24/09/2021 13:45

I do think you should do something about the door tbh. Is there anyway you can sand off the bit where you used the wrong colour and re-paint? It might look better with a small chip gone that two different colour paints, I can imagine that looking awful.

Agree that it seems really unfair you're babysitting, not sure there's much to be done about the dishwasher, I'm guessing they're not integrated appliances so while its an unfortunate surprise for new buyers it is what it is.

Gingernaut · 24/09/2021 13:54

Find a big box.

Put the two year old in it.

Give the Sharpie to the two year old.

Two year old is now surrounded by 'walls' he can scribble on.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/09/2021 14:31

@Gingernaut guarantee you that in that scenario, the 2yo will draw all over his face Grin

Bonitalazenia · 24/09/2021 15:09

@JesusInTheCabbageVan @Gingernaut I only have him all day Monday. Haha I love that suggestion!
@leakymcleakleak I probably will have to do something about the door, I dont have the original paint any more.
Thanks guys

Tell them it's a Banksy.

mama4321 · 25/09/2021 09:52

Is it in a place where you could put a stick on house number?

Bonitalazenia · 25/09/2021 10:24

Sadly no @mama4321… I’ve completely ballsed it up…. I’ve ‘patched up’ lots of places and it looks like bloody camouflage… it’s truly bad

OP posts:
Mosaic123 · 25/09/2021 10:28

Maybe repaint the door. I bet the place you are going to is less perfect than you thought it looked too!

mama4321 · 25/09/2021 10:55

Do you have a grateful son or daughter whose son you have been looking after who could paint it for you?

Bonitalazenia · 25/09/2021 11:06

Haha @mama4321! They work and I’ll have him Monday all day but I’ve been wondering to myself if I could do it in 2 hrs Tuesday morning…?
But the more I think about it I think my buyer will have a farrow and ball colour picked out already. And clearly I’m not a great painter. Just wondering whether to ask the EA her feelings?

You really don’t need to worry. Or at least, my sellers didn’t.
Chunks missing out of walls that had been hidden by beds and floating shelves taken down that had been painted around. And a wardrobe that had been painted around too Hmm
Seriously, don’t worry. They’ll want to do lots when they move in anyway!

mama4321 · 25/09/2021 11:34

Well then as pp says don't worry about it. Having just bought a house that was extremely grotty and greasy and ick if I was your buyer I would just be delighted with clean. As above there is almost always minor damage a buyer needs to sort anyway Leave a pot of paint and an apology note if you like - you will have enough to do before you move without painting a door and then trying to manoeuvre round it while it dries! Happy moving.

Solotravel · 25/09/2021 11:38

We moved earlier in the year and the sellers had painted around a large hall cabinet - they did leave us a pot of the same colour paint though so we could cover it up if we wanted to. These things happen, there are always surprises when you move in somewhere.

maofteens · 25/09/2021 12:38

I took my door knocker and told my buyers I would put a new one in. The one I removed was from another country and I couldn't find one that would cover the holes or fit properly. I left them some money and an apology and said they'd probably want to pick one themselves anyway, and they did thank me (through the agent).
Leave them some money and apologise for the state of the door.

dotdotdotdash · 26/09/2021 21:42

Properly preparing and repainting a front door is not a two hour job, and sounds like you don’t need the additional stress. Honestly I agree it’s better to leave some cash to pay for the jib with a quick note of apology!

Tirnanogg · 27/09/2021 10:33

You have my sympathies! Hours before a viewing my toddler managed to tip her chair over backwards and her head went THROUGH the wall (just missing some pipes, thank goodness!) Luckily she was fine, but the kitchen wall wasn't... These things always happen when you're trying to keep everything nice!

effiehabb · 28/09/2021 10:23

Ex EA here, please don't worry, you don't need the additional stress, it is was it is and in all honesty they are likely wanting to redecorate. As long as it's generally clean these things are kind of to be expected, it's not a show home and many homes are likely to have decorating issues behind appliances/furniture etc Smile
Best of luck!

Bonitalazenia · 28/09/2021 12:58

@AnotherDelphinium @mama4321 @Solotravel @maofteens @dotdotdotdash @Tirnanogg @effiehabb Thanks so much to all of you! I'm completely snowed under and I underestimated how long it would take me to clean so there's no way I would have had time to paint the door.....
But I'm getting there now!
