Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about this area? Seen an affordable property there and will be working relatively closely - first time buy so not forever home but would intend to be there for a few years.

What is the community/area like, child friendly? I have a 8 month old DD.

One of my worries is that it looks quite close to the motorway - never lived near one before. What can I expect? Noise/traffic?

Is it worth a viewing?

I would say that motorway noise is the least of your concerns, since Heston is next door to Heathrow Airport.

@twilightcafe Yes, forgot to add that. I've read various articles stating that for some it just becomes background noise whereas for others they really can't handle it.

I've tried searching for some sort of graph showing how loud it is in that particular area , as well as looking at flight paths etc but haven't found what I'm looking for so if anyone has any info regarding that it would be helpful.

My concern would be that as Heston is basically on the final approach for planes to land, the noise from planes coming in to land would be pretty constant. All you can do is try to visit to assess the noise levels.

The top one should give you an idea. Once you've figured out what impacts you, which runway and direction, the runway plan above should help but it also depends on wind direction

We were meant to have the planes over us for a week 2 weeks ago and they were only there a day or so! We are only impacted when they come in to land on the southern runway (can hear the northern ones but not so loud). Landing planes are bloody loud but you do get used to it!

There's not really anything in Heston, so it's a bit of a through town, either to get to Southall on one side or Hounslow on the other.

Depending on where you are looking at, either motorway noise from the M4 or plane noise could be a concern, though it's on the north side approach to the airport, so the noise isn't as bad as it could be.

That said transport links are really very good, it's a short bus ride to Hounslow West if you want the tube, and Southall is not far for the overground or Elizabeth line, and of course the airport is about 10 minutes drive.

In terms of people, it's very diverse, mostly Asian, multi-generational families living in extended homes, the white people are mostly older/retired. Housing stock is predominantly 1930's semi's, some of which are really quite nice, though they do also have two huge council estates, where the houses seem to be made of concrete.

I don't know anything about what it's like for young families, but I hope the above has helped to give some insight.

@Starseeking thanks for your response very informative.

@StrongArm thanks for those links! I had a look at them previously but can't for the life of me grasp what they're trying to convey.

I understand the one about the alternating flight paths but the one where you can look at right traffic etc is beyond me. I wish there was some form of key showing what the figures actually mean in terms of day to day life. I'm looking at it from my phone though so it might just be me

Did you put your postcode in the bottom one of the links? That should show you for August how often they were over you

I've just had a quick look on flight radar.

Essentially the planes, when they land from the east, land to the north or south. I'm under the southern flight path from the east directly. Looking at the map, I think you might be under the northern path. I suspect you might then be caught by then taking off when they take off to the east (which means they are landing from the west which doesn't affect either me or you at all).

That link is far easier on the computer btw. It's almost impossible on the phone.

I must admit I've lived in west/south western London almost all my life and it doesn't bother me at all - I don't notice it in the house. I do in the garden but it's just something you get used to. Some people will never buy a house in these areas because of it though!
