Toilet and sink combos - do they work?

Those loos which have a little handbasin built into the top of the cistern - do they work? My plumber is suggesting suggesting one for when we replace our broken loo, as we don't have a washbasin in there, and I am interested for their water-saving properties, but I am sceptical. Does it get tiresome reaching over the loo to wash your hands? Do you always drip water over the loo seat lid from your clean hands? Do they break a lot?

Don't have one but I think it would definitely be better than no basin at all.

What put me off was that they are cold water only.

Is there room for a separate sink? If there isn't then surely it's better than no sink at all.

Indecisivelurcher · 21/09/2021 06:48

My mums got one in her downstairs loo and it's fine.

Shopgirl1 · 21/09/2021 06:52

Definitely better than no sink. I don’t think I’d install a loo with no sink.

A local cafe has one and it works fine, IMO.

I have one. It isn't cold water only. It works fine, saves space and water. You have to flush first then the hand washing water goes into the cistern

Thank everyone. The loo is right next to the bathroom with a sink, so we do already wash our hands afterwards!

Isn't it awkward leaning over the loo to wash your hands?

If the choice was a separate sink that would be better, but if the choice is walking with unwashed hands (touching door handles and light switches on the way) to another room to wash, I think the combined unit would be far preferable!

MIL has one. It's a little awkward because her loo is so narrow you can't get round the side bit it works fine and is definitely better than no sink.

I've never noticed that it's cold water only nor drips. Surely you get the same drips you'd get when you move your hands from the sink to towel anywhere?

I fancy one in an environmentally favourably way, I am also hoping that it would encourage people to put the seat down. Looking at you DS!

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 21/09/2021 08:38

It's easy to reach. It's a back to wall toilet and you are not leaving over a lot
My plumber had never fitted one and tried to talk me out of it but I hated the tiny basin on the wall. He argued it would be awkward but had to admit that access to the basin is not difficult

SlidDownTheElephantsTrunk · 21/09/2021 09:10

I have one in the downstairs loo. I purposely bought one with the largest sink I could find. We don't find it difficult at all but we are all over 6 foot.

It has hot water too.
