Hi,
We (myself and my husband) along with our 2 daughters currently in primary school are planning to move to Maidenhead.
We are looking to buy a house in an area with good links to London , good primary and secondary schools.

Please could you all tell me the areas I need to look out for ? How is Farm road in Maidenhead. It is close to secondary school but primary school is a bit far.

Another ideas to consider ?

Thank you.

Do you know the catchments for your preferred schools? I’d start there tbh. What do you know about the primary and secondary you’re thinking of?

Do you want single sex or co-ed? Do you want a C of E school or one with no religious affiliation? Do you want grammar-there are grammar schools on the doorstep-but not in Berkshire. We are on the border of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and some friends have managed to get their children into Borlase Grammar School (Marlow I think). Maidenhead has a variety of options, but be aware that a lot of the good schools are over subscribed and often take children in catchment area first. House prices are very varied, so it is difficult to allocate areas to live in without knowing your budget. My suggestion would be to go on Rightmove, find some areas with houses in your price bracket and then look at the schools nearby and see which primary schools "feed" into them. Good luck with your search.

If you want to consider grammar entry, you are only eligible for the 11+ if you live north of the A4, or over the river in bucks (i.e. the Taplow side).
Most of the primaries are oversubscribed (ie being in catchment alone isn't sufficient, you need to live close), so you need to check the admissions success in previous years (www.rbwm.gov.uk/home/schools-and-education/school-admissions/starting-school-or-moving-junior-school-september). This is true for the popular primaries - Furze Platt, Oldfield, Lowbrook, Boyne Hill, (or anywhere with outstanding ofsted).

The area around All Saints Ave is naice Victorian housing. The Fisheries by the river if you have £1m+. North Maidenhead, Farm road area etc are nice family neighborhoods with mixed housing stock (victorian to 1970s). Presumably you are thinking about Newlands, which you need to live much closer to than catchment area suggests - check RBWM website.
