Living room/diner

Those with the arch between the living room and dining room have you kept it, completely blocked it up or added in doors?

I don’t like it being as open as it is but would I regret completely filling it in? It would give us more wall space for furniture in the living room.

We blocked it in the middle but put two sliders either side. The rooms were each very big - 20 by 15, and 3.5m ceilings. It made it much cosier.
In my current much smaller house, there are partly glazed floors between living and kitchen/diner. I'm putting crittal doors in between, because the living room is small (12x14) I want to keep the open feeling, yet close it off if I want.

We've got double doors on a sort of butterfly hinge, works perfectly for open plan by day and being more cosy by night.

Sounds like some sort of separation is in order!

My husband and I were just discussing it and he seems to think there is an option for something that looks like a wall but can be separated for things like Christmas where you might like the bigger space? I do vaguely recall that type of thing on Your Home Made Perfect maybe but don’t even know where to start looking it up!

Thoughts on something like this? We’d essentially use them as a wall 90% of the time but just gives us the option to have the bigger space at times.

I spent year in this house hating the gap between the two rooms. Eventually we filled it. Didn’t cost as much as I thought and it is so much better.

I probably wouldn't keep the gap if you'll genuinely only use it at Christmas, the wall space will probably be more useful to you.

I use mine as an open plan daily, it it was monthly or annualy I might close it off.
