6 radiators to be place ...cost what!

Just trying to get an opinion from the hive, just had a quote to fix 6 new radiators £1046.

I've already bought the radiators and valves from screw fix.
Plumbers came round today and said they would need to change the pipes under the floorboards as the new radiators are smaller.

£1046 to fit them when i have already bought them.... is this right?

Sounds like a bigger job if they need to replace pipework. Could you change the radiators for ones that are compatible with your existing pipework?

nannannanana · 15/09/2021 20:25

Maybe piglet John will have some advice he's normally really helpful for this type of thing

CollegeDoctor86 · 15/09/2021 20:29

ooh piglet john, can we @ him. yes they said that the new radiators wont fit straight onto the old pipes so they need to be altered but this still sounds like alot

Not if they have to take up floorboards etc, replace pipes to fit the new rads etc

RoseGoldGlasses · 15/09/2021 20:44

Sounds fine to me considering what they've got to do.
It'll come down if you change radiators

Kitkat151 · 15/09/2021 20:45

Sounds like a good price

CollegeDoctor86 · 15/09/2021 22:10

it seems quite a lot, seeing as i already have the radiators.

Sounds about right to me

ChocolateCauldron · 15/09/2021 22:17

Might be easier to change the radiators for ones that are compatible with your current pipes.

Does that include getting the system flushed/cleaned? How much pipework needs to be changed?

If it was a straight swap then yes that's really high, but its really like re-plumbing part of the house from scratch.

Mantlemoose · 15/09/2021 22:22

Drain system, remove old radiators, lift floorboards, remove old piping, install new piping, install new radiators, replace floorboards, reconnect to boiler including new pipework, flush system. All takes time . Return new radiators and buy ones same size as others still be a few hundred.

Singinginshower · 15/09/2021 22:22

It's because it's not a straight swap OP.
You have actually created more work, as they can't just change the old radiators for the new ones.
The carpet has to come up, some floor boards have to be taken up, pipes need altering....
It all takes time.

Asdf12345 · 15/09/2021 22:28

If you swap them for ones that fit you should be able to do it yourself in an afternoon, or connect with flexible pipe. Fitting what you have bought so it looks properly done could well be two days work plus parts which at present rates could be that price.

Get another quote.

We are in the south east and have just had 5 radiators replaced for £1.8k. I don't know how the prices break down but it included supply of the radiators, pipe rework and fitting. It took 2 men a fairly long day to complete.

Sounds like a fair amount of work, which equals a reasonable amount of time. Therefore £££

dementedma · 16/09/2021 17:23

We just had 5 supplied and fitted for £1080. No changes to pipework though as we got ones that worked on the old pipes.
