Probate meeting the sellers

We finally sold my mothers house which has been empty for five years and it’s been quite stressful . Db and wife did the majority of the viewings .however the buyer was shown round by the estate agent , as Db had to isolate.contracts to be exchanged in a few weeks and now db has said he Wants to meet buyers To give more background detail history how everything works .
We don’t think this is a good idea as it may be a bit of putting /too much baggage particularly offering it before contracts are exchanged. Db is having difficulties moving on emotionally from this ,so trying to be sympathetic just interested in views of it this would be thought of as a bit strange or would you appreciate this, find it useful ?

I think it's strange and rather a weird idea.

MossyBottom · 12/09/2021 21:54

You don't have to do it.
I sold my late mother's house and the EA did everything. Even on the conveyancing you are not expected to know details as an executor.
Having said that I dod put together as much paperwork as I could on appliances, recent work done, local known/ recommended tradesmen.

Not a good idea. And very odd

Cattitudes · 12/09/2021 21:56

Not until you have exchanged and even then I would leave written instructions, persuade him that they might forget verbal ones and also compiling them might help him, plus he can keep a copy. Maybe the estate agent showing them round is partly why it sold.

When I bought recently I asked for one last viewing before exchange, just to make sure nothing had burnt down in the meantime. The seller was there and could show me where stopcocks, etc, were which was really useful. If your buyer asks for another viewing then they might be really grateful for a tour from someone familiar with the home, but I think I would have found it a little strange if the seller had been the one to suggest it.

I'm sorry for your loss, hope all goes smoothly with the sale x

God no!! Do not let him do this. It would be so easy for him to inadvertently say something that would put them off the sale. It is outta unusual at at best would give an impression that as a seller he is going to be hard work to deal with. His intentions mean well but I struggle to imagine how this could come over to the buyer very well at all. Telling the estate agent you're happy to answer any questions and leaving anything like receipts and manuals for things I'd ask you need to do.

Thanks for the replies, tbh I think this is exactly what I Was thinking but there are a lot of family politics that I’m avoiding 😵‍💫So it’s good to hear some objective views thank you
