Painting over UPVC window frames

Has anyone had their UPVC window frames painted to change their colour? How effective was it? How hardy is it? How long does it last? And how much does it cost?

We've got c.30 windows and doors so not sure if it's an option for us price-wise but know it could transform the look of our house. Frames are currently white and I was thinking about a French Grey or Cotswolds cream. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks!

Do people do this? They are plastic. Does paint go on plastic?

We did with zinnser all coat exterior satin. Has a 15 year guarantee but ime zinsser products are brilliant anyway.

@Chicchicchicchiclana they truly do! Paint technology has moved on but I'd like to know by how much!

@TheCanyon may I ask you how long it took to do? What was the finish like? How much did it cost? Thanks.

We had some 'brown fake wood' uPVC windows and two doors painted.
They were first primed with Crown Trade 'Grip Extreme'
That was four years ago and the paint is fine. We thought it might chip or flake off but there has been no problems at all.

There are many companies now that spray whole houses, UPVC windows, doors, garage doors, conservatories, etc
We had just our front door sprayed and are very pleased with it.

Thanks for your input. Can you give me an idea of costs please?

I painted my own - I used a primer from B&Q (can't remember the details but it definitely specified it could be used for upvc) with a couple of coats of exterior paint on top. That was three years ago and it's still fine, it's lasted much better than I expected.

Yes, they are painted just like the plastic bumpers will be on your car. The longevity is likely similar to car paint so I'd expect fading between 15-25 years, depending how they've been cared for/how much sun they get.

Wow @minniemoll. That's impressive. I honestly don't fancy painting all of mine - especially as it's a two story house!

I really would like to get a company in to paint them but have no idea of cost.

Obviously I can ring round and get quotes but some ballpark figures from people who've been there before me would be helpful.

Oh wow!! I hate mine I never knew they could be painted!

I didn't do all of them! Most were replaced with white but I couldn't justify replacing some of the downstairs ones where I'm hoping to do an extension in a few years time, so I painted them to match.
