I have a tiny cloakroom (90x100cm) that needs to be refurbished.
because it's so tiny I wonder about alternatives to plasterboard & tiles on the walls.
I saw them use acrylic panels in bathrooms on the block and other renovation shows but wonder about the practicalities about installing something like this.
we looked st panels that hotels and caravans sometimes use, but couldn't find any that are not ugly.
just using paint on the walls is not an option, I want the bathroom easy to clean.

You can get good quality stylish shower panels which are nothing like the plasticy caravan thing you describe, but they're not cheap! However, my question would be why do you need them for a small cloakroom? IME they look good if you buy top quality and just use them in the actual shower space, not all around the walls.

the idea was that we have tiles/panelling in the 'danger area', up to 4ft high and painted walls above.

If it's just a toilet and basin then how much of a 'danger area' is there though? Oh wait, I remember when ds was little....!
Honestly though if you're not happy to have painted walls down to the skirting, I would go for tiles. You could use darker grout to avoid that horrible orangey colour that white grout goes. Personally I don't think the panels look good anywhere outside a shower enclosure

If you're set on panels though, get ones that click together: they're not hard to install.

I have a very small bathroom and had splash panels installed on all walls. They are about 1 cm thick and the builder attached them using an adhesive. With a silver edging on the corners that they slotted into. I have a concrete colour above the bath and a silver string panel on the other walls.

I like it, my priorities were that it was easy to clean and it certainly is and it's a million times better than what was there before, also a lot cheaper than repairing the walls and retiling or painting.

hp that looks good.

the 'making good' of the wall is a concern for me as well.
the tiles that were there were put directly onto the wall (and were cracked and peeling off). to tile it properly would mean plaster/aquabording and then tiling making the room an inch smaller than it is.

Thanks @purplesequins the only thing I don't like about the panels is you can't match the pattern like wallpaper, not a problem with the concrete but frustrates me with the silver threads one, although apparently nobody else noticed until I pointed it out and there aren't many joins.

My Mum had her bathroom done from these
www.multipanel.co.uk/
She mixed and matched the panels to break it up a bit. They aren’t cheap, so it will be cheaper for buying for a small room, or won’t be worth the expense.
