Paying solicitor (on completion because you have to, in order to complete) and disputing invoice later?

There are two charges on my bill I dispute but I there isn't enough time to argue the toss before completion.
Do I transfer what I think I should pay or just pay it all and carry on disputing it later?
One if the fees is an estate agent referral fee that wasn't made clear from the outset (otherwise I would have gone direct).

If you think a fee from an estate agent is wrong, you shepulf definitely query it before completion, otherwise the solicitor will transfer payment to the estate agent on completion and you'll very much be on the back foot trying to get anything back.

I have queried it but it won't get resolved before completion.

You could instruct your solicitor not to pay the estate agent on completion, though you will have to confirm in writing that you will pay the estate agent yourself, but an email should suffice.

Estate Agents prefer the solicitor to pay them direct as they will then receive their commission on completion day, whereas you may only receive the sale proceeds from your solicitor a couple of days later, so the EA may have to wait, unless you already have enough to pay them out of your own funds.
