Who can install a sun tunnel/approximate price?

Hi all,

We live in a house with a very high stairwell which has no window. I'm thinking of getting a sun tunnel (or two) put in, but while I can find websites that will sell me a sun tunnel, I can't seem to find anyone who says they can put them in. Who do I need to contact? Will a standard roofer be able to do it?

It would have to come through a loft but would make a huge difference to our landing and stairwell.

Just search for 'sun tunnel installers'

We don't have one but were told that the 'dome' ones are more efficient than the 'flat' sort that velux do, (by a company who sold the 'dome' ones!)

I have the same issue... but the reading on here and elsewhere about sun tunnels, they can get dead flies in them etc. and aren't too aesthetically appealing (to me!). I am going to have a small fixed rooflight instead (minor change to joists so not much more expensive).

You can remove the bottom of the tunnel to clear out any dead flies.

We've got 2 and there are no flies in either of them. They were installed by a company called Solatube. They are still in business. It was one of the first things we did here - we had a long darkish kitchen (an extension had been built) and a dining room also with a conservatory attached. Both have benefitted greatly and when the sun is shining (or even when it's not really) there is so much reflected light that it really does look like there's lights on

@alfenbalf
The thing that impressed us about this company(Solatube) was that they took great care to align the tube properly to get the maximum amount of light dependent on the direction of the sun. In addition they advised about not getting a 'crinkly' flexible tube as it refracts and reflects light off in all directions so they're not as efficient as you'd hoped. If you want photos we can arrange that. I'd recommend them highly and no we have no connection with the company at all

Hi @loopylindi, I know this is quite an old thread but, if you see this, could I ask, is your house a bungalow or did you get the tube down to the ground floor through the roof and a first floor? Our house sounds similar to yours as it has a long lounge/dining room with a conservatory joined on and we are wondering about a sun tube as a way to get more light into the lounge. Thanks!

We found our fitter through Velux. We're in a Victorian terrace with no natural light on the landing. It really has made a difference upstairs although the light doesn't really permeate downstairs. I would highly recommend them and happy to be DM'd if you want pictures etc
