Hate my new kitchen, what can I do?

I’ve had a new kitchen fitted by cowboy builders.

I’m working at getting the worktops replaced with solid surface worktops that are basically plastic but look a bit like granite. The worktop has a slight marble through it.

I’ve got Lino fitted and I like the darker look. The Lino isn’t quite right but I’m thinking some tiles would look good.

The units are the same colour, the top colour is more representative of the true colour.

I would like to get a mirrored splash back on the left.

Any ideas on what I should do? I do have upstands so technically wall doesn’t need plastered.

Continuing the wood flooring into the kitchen area will make the space seem more cohesive and I think will make the kitchen look bigger.

As it is, your fridge freezer is outside of the grey floored kitchen zone so it looks like the kitchen isn't big enough for it.

The upstands and worktop are very shoddy, I wouldn't be paying for that.

Hard no to mirrored plinths - very 1980s disco in a bad way.

Not keen on the range with this style of kitchen would be better with a built in oven and hob.

You need a new more stylish bin if it's going to be on display.

It needs another colour to link it together. I would chose a lime green pop of colour.
Is there space for the microwave to be built in? Is where the jars are where it should go.
I’m not sure that I would tile it. Yes you can have upstands and tiles. We have both behind our Everhot. We have left the rest painted.
I will check something tomorrow and get back to you. There is a firm that does bright splash back which you might like behind your stove. It would draw the eye in.

Yes it’s a built in microwave space, just haven’t purchased a microwave because that corner freaks me out (bad join).

I’m thinking hero one tiles.

Lol everyone is hating the plinths but they aren’t in many kitchens. Thought it would tie in with the stainless steel.

Yes I wanted to save on worktop space so put the FF ‘outside’ the kitchen but it looks fine. That space would be dead otherwise imo.

Unfortunately the range isn’t selling so I can’t justify the cost of throwing away this cooker. I’m sure when it fits properly and I’ve got tiles, plus the cooker is the right level it will fit in.

On the plus side it’s got lots of oven space, can grill and oven at the same time lol

If you do have any crumbs on the floor the mirrored plinth will visually multiply them so it will look like a sea of crumbs. The showroom will have given you some guff about them making it look as if the units are floating/make the space feel bigger but in reality they are just a job creation scheme for cleaners.

I’d love a range, so I’d keep
It if I were you! But yes it needs raising and whatever is going on with the corner needs sorting out. I think as the kitchen is stepped down it’s perfectly Ok to have different flooring. If it’s all too plain for
You then choose some funky tiles to go behind the range, if you just tile the range and have upstands elsewhere then you can splash out on some more pricy tiles.

Yes to lighter coloured feature tiles (or more cheery vinyl) on the floor. As it's not possible to continue the same floor from the living room, go for an obvious contrast. The grey vinyl just feels dark, heavy and depressing.

If colour is your thing, something like this or this would hide crumbs and be cheerful.

Your units are nice. Get the plinths that match them, from the same range.

I would do upstands that match your new worktops, and a stainless steel splashback behind the hob, that would continue the stainless steel of the range up the wall. If it's not possible to get upstands to match the worktop, I would tile the whole lot.

I don't think you need to go crazy with coloured accessories to perk it up, particularly if you go for a different flooring. A well chosen plant pot on the window ledge could make a difference.

Why do you love a range? The multiple ovens is fab!

I’ll wait and see :)

Showroom had no input.

I’m kinda excited for it :)

It would be ok to have different flooring, I have tiles, hexagonal ones in my kitchen and wooden flooring on the rest but you can't have two types of wood effect floor. It's very jarring.

I'd also say the images you posted of inspiration are very modern looking so the range oven doesn't sit in that look, which may be why your not achieving what you set out.

I think I’m not happy with the quality of the kitchen or the fitting either.

I’ll try and get some money for the range and get rid :(

Where’s the best place to sell the range cooker - on marketplace?

OP posts:
FolornLawn · 08/09/2021 10:01

Gumtree?

Kitchendrama1 · 16/09/2021 18:45

Decided on wall tiles! The chevron ones.

Trying to integrate the geometric ones for the floor. Feeling more confident!
