Any regrets - Meranti windows?

Hi - we were supposed to be getting new Accoya casement windows fitted end October.

The company has now advised that they've got massive delays on Accoya, which would be a big 2-month overrun on our whole renovation project.

They're suggesting Meranti instead. It's about £10k cheaper than the Accoya. Would I regret this?

We have a lot of windows (I've had over 10 quotes, so I know general cost).

The Accoya would be £50k, the Meranti just over £40k.

I asked about Sapele. They're really advising me against this wood though and saying it warps. The quote for the Sapele is a tiny bit more than Meranti (about £1.5k more in total).

I really don't want to make a massive expensive mistake.

Any advice please? WWYD?

Hi,

The windows in my current house are made of meranti, I wasn’t sure what they were made of until we started removing them and cut one up.

They are the original windows for the house and it was built in 79 , not one of them had any rot when I removed them. The window and door on the west side got the worst of the weather but only the beadings around the glass were starting to show any sign of wear.

Also I don’t think they had been looked after much either.
It’s a decent hardwood ,very reddish in colour and has quite a bit of weight to it. Our stairs are made out of sapele and though it’s similar in colour and grain I think it’s more suited to internal than the meranti.

@Chumleymouse thank you for your feedback. I think we'll go with the Meranti. There's so much other stuff going on in the house that it seems bonkers to delay the whole project waiting for the other wood.

Thanks 😊
