Built in oven replacement - what amp?

Our oven broke the other day, and as we’ve already replaced parts for it before we’re just replacing it.
It’s a built in oven, and looking online the different ovens seem to say “ requires hardwiring to a x amp fuse and should be installed by a qualified installer” where x is 16, 25, 30, 32 for various ovens.
This may be a stupid question but does it matter which one I get? Our oven is currently hardwired in, will they be able to install any oven in its place? If not, how can I know what is suitable? The oven was here when we moved in and we have no paperwork for it.

If the oven (you do mean "oven," not "cooker?") is hardwired to its own circuit, it will most likely be a 32A which is ample for a double oven or for a cooker of normal size. In this case, if you look in the consumer unit ("fusebox") you should see a breaker labelled "oven " or "cooker" and the breaker itself will be stamped "B32"

If you turn off that breaker, the oven or cooker should stop working, but nothing else should be affected.

It is also possible, but undesirable, to connect a single (not double) oven with a 13Amp FCU to a socket circuit. This is sometimes found when the previous resident had a gas cooker. This is not suitable for a double oven or for an electric cooker, so you should have a new circuit installed.

@PigletJohn Thanks! I think I mean oven, the hob is separate. Ok, so the fuse box does say B32, is that a 32amp fuse then? The fuse box says cooker, but only controls the built in oven, there is a gas hob separate to that.

B32 is a circuit breaker, not a fuse. The "32" means 32Amp.

So, an oven that says it needs to be fitted into a 32amp fuse would be ok if the circuit breaker says B32?
(Sorry, I swear I’m not normally incompetent!)

Yes

So will any oven of lower power.

(And for reasons I won't go into, so will a domestic cooker of higher power)

Perfect, thank you!!
