Something “eating” cedar cladding - help!

We’ve had cedar cladding on a part of our house for over 2 years now. It is untreated and so has weathered to a silver colour. All good, except in the last month or so I’ve noticed some bits of the original wood coming through and I think something has been “eating” it (see photos). I suspect wasps as I’ve noticed lots of them out there recently on the cladding, but I’m not 100% sure.

Assuming it is wasps (or another insect) and I don’t want them to do any more damage than they’ve already done, does anyone have any recommendations for repelling them? E.g. something I can apply to the cladding to stop them.

For reference, we live in a coastal village but next door to a field which currently has corn in it. I don’t think it’s cats because some of the damage is much too high.

Looks like wasp damage to me.
This year we have hung up fake wasps nests (buy them from a garden centre) near our plum and greengage trees. So far, no signs of wasp damage to any of the fruit. Wasps see the nests and think they are on another colony's territory and go elsewhere. Will only cost you a tenner or so for a pack of two fake nests. Pack them out with bubble wrap. Got to be worth a try!
