Removing chimney breasts. Bad idea?

Anyone have experience with this?
Our 1930s house has a chimney breast in the living room as is standard. we intend to keep that one. It also has one in the adjacent dining room but is on the opposite wall, so its bordering the kitchen behind, not the neighbours party wall.

It would give us more space upstairs and down if we removed them, which I understand involves gallows and a steel beam being installed in the loft. Providing its done properly with a structural engineer etc is it a bad idea? would it ruin the structural integrity of the house? / cause adverse effects?

Thanks

We removed one from an old house because it was in the way of our new kitchen layout. It went on gallows brackets in the loft and we gained lots of space. It’s definitely worth considering but you will need a proper structural engineer to let you know what can/can’t be done.

Loads of 30s house have one or both taken out. We had one in dinning room taken out... No issues, gives more space
