boyfriend and i are buying our first flat atm. we've put an offer in on a flat which is 1 of 2 flats in converted house. both flats have a share of the freehold...

we have downloaded the land registry info of both flats and we have seen that the other freeholder (owner of the other flat) has a 'charge on their property'...

is this anything to worry about or nothing that will affect us ?

we will of course ask all of these questions officially but we are both just wondering now ! thank you

A mortgage is a charge on the property.

@HasaDigaEebowai

A mortgage is a charge on the property.
oh no, stupid question on my part it seems Grin

so if the date of the charge is 'x years' after the date they purchased the property does that just mean they remortgaged?

Also a Debt can be put on a property as a charge I think

Yes, probably means they have re-mortgaged. Also no need to worry about what they are doing. It's nothing to do with your purchase. Their charge will be on the leasehold of their flat
