Decision fatigue! Any suggestions for skirting board?!

Not the most exciting house renovation decision but I'm sure there's a knack to getting the skirting board to suit the room etc! 1950s bungalow renovated to a fairly modern finish - Karndean wood effect flooring etc. Any suggestions on which skirting board profile would suit this? Average ceiling height. Thanks 😊

What door frames do you have. I have been renovating my 1950s bungalow too (sounds like your style). However I couldn’t change the door frames (straw walls), the frames are narrow and plain so ended up using a simple bullnose skirting to match it. I wasn’t a fan at first but actually it’s very easy to dust and looks slick with the door frames and rest of the finish.

@ostrom thanks for your reply. We don't have door frames yet, I'm guessing they all need to roughly match up - not sure if once we pick the skirting boards the builders will just order the architraves in the same style? Don't know quite how it works but I guess they should match / go together!

Yes, you want them to match for sure. I guess it depends whether you want your skirting and door frames to be a feature or not? Or if the interiors, doors, flooring etc are going to be the show points of the room. For me, the simple bullnose works well as I have gone for oak doors (veneer, I'm not that well off!) and the simple frame means they stand out. I think if I was having a simple white wood panel door, a fancier frame and skirting would be nicer. Especially if I was also having simple white walls, a more detailed skirting would add interest. I think the Ogee style would be a bit much in a standard 1950s bungalow, so maybe if you wanted something more decorative than a bullnose what about the Torus?

Also, I rented a lovely victorian flat but I got so sick of cleaning the dust out of all the grooves in the skirting that this definitely made me want something simple!

I love Torus. Not many dust resting places and nice and tall.

Also if putting in tall skirting boards... Consider radiator height in kids rooms.. Our skirting boards are tall so lots of bits (crayons, little cars, hair bands, rubbers) gets stuck behind... Wish had lower skirting or a higher radiator

Ovolo is perhaps the best. Overly ornate isn’t 1950’s tbh.

Chamfered skirting?

Thanks everyone - we settled on Torus! Another decision ticked off :)
