We looked at about 8 I think. There weren't many houses in our price range in our preferred area. We wanted to be in the catchment of one particular school so we were very restricted in terms of roads. In the end there were only three contenders - our favourite house (big, cheap and westerly facing garden), our house and another house on our current road. We initially offered on the latter and had our offer accepted and had the sales process progress. Then the vendors pulled out. Then we found our favourite house, put an offer in but the vendors went with someone else who was chain free. Gutted!

Before we offered on our favourite house we had seen our current house. We then went back to it and got our offer accepted. In the end we are happy in this house, doing it up to our requirements, but we do occasionally think of the house we didn't get as it would have left us with a great house and more money in the bank!

My house was the tenth house I viewed. Got close to buying the eighth one but it still didn’t feel quite right, I just couldn’t settle, couldn’t quite explain why. There was other interest and I walked away from it without another thought. Walked in here and I felt straight away that I had come home.

TakeMeToKernow · 29/08/2021 20:57

14!!

VerbenaGirl · 29/08/2021 21:02

Only the one we bought, as we weren’t even looking. Was round the corner from our previous house and when a for sale sign went up we were straight in there, as we’d always liked it.

DominicRaabsTravelAgent · 29/08/2021 21:06

Think it was about 5. DH really wanted one of them, I wasn't keen and it was way overpriced and they wouldn't budge so thankfully that one was out.

The Estate Agent called for our views on a house we'd seen the evening before, whilst they were on the phone they told us about a house that had come on the market that morning, we viewed it an hour later and had bought it within 2 hours of it being for sale. Still happy here years later.

dopeyduck · 29/08/2021 21:13

We viewed 5 all together. All similar in terms of No of bedrooms / location but our current house was biggest by far but in the worst condition.

Bluenotgreenmilk · 29/08/2021 21:35

One-we live in it
Dp looked at about a dozen online and we had two to view
We walked into this one and fell in love with it-only downside is the walk into town/work/friends houses but it’s not too far,I’m just lazy
We didn’t have a long list of things we wanted-just basics like a shower, room for a dishwasher,a hallway, garden and at least two bedrooms (we got 3)
It has a pantry which is lovely and I didn’t really want a kitchen/diner but we got one
We love our house

weegiemum · 29/08/2021 21:42

One.

We started thinking about it (we were renting) when I was diagnosed with a life long neurological condition. We already owned a house elsewhere in the country and we're prepared to sell to fund the new house. In the end it wasn't necessary.

Found house on Monday
Viewed on Tuesday (and I was too ill to go upstairs, had got out of hospital on the previous Friday).
Offered on Wednesday
Accepted on Thursday.
Mortgage in principle on Friday.

I first saw upstairs on the Friday before we moved on the Monday.

Been here 9.5 years now and it's been a fantastic house for us all.

OldTinHat · 29/08/2021 21:45

About 25.

caringcarer · 29/08/2021 21:46

Viewed 3 all in as ame area. Was viewing one when house next door was having for sale sign put up. Fi my ished viewing them knocked on next door and asked if we could view. Larger house bought it.

isettled · 29/08/2021 21:58

Our first house 3.

This house one and done abs bought on a bit of a whim.

On both occasions we went with a new build because it worked better for us and the houses in our price range were god awful

AlexandraQueen · 29/08/2021 22:08

About 3 a week for a good 9 months straight!

First time buyers and our requirements got more specific the more we saw. Started off just wanting a 3 bed within a 20 mile radius, then as we saw things we didn't like we could narrow our search.

RolloTomassi · 29/08/2021 22:46

Current house, we only viewed this one. Loved it, went for it.

I still "shop" RM all the time and haven't yet seen anything I'd rather have bought!

Bouledeneige · 29/08/2021 23:20

About 20. I love this place.

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/08/2021 23:29

We picked up details of all the houses in our price range( very few as house price slump) in our area. There were about 4, we saw them, picked our favourite and offered. It was 300 years old and when the survey came through we pulled out as we didn't have the capital to do the necessary. One more house had come on the market in the meantime. We looked at it and bought it. It's a nice house , in an excellent situation that has met our needs.
A few years later when my DPs were downsizing and moving to our area the housing market had recovered and DDad looked at 50 plus houses before buying.

Agadorsparticus · 29/08/2021 23:57

Current house was 2 before buying this one. Our new one, we were planning a new build off plan but changed our minds and viewed the one we are now buying.

Sum2021 · 30/08/2021 00:01

About 26 (from top of my head). Often had 5 viewings every saturday for a few months. We viewed any that met our criteria and budget but in a few locations. A few houses we viewed a few times. Locality: london

NotMyCat · 30/08/2021 00:05

I wasn't planning to move... was bored and went for a walk, saw the development and wandered in. Put a deposit down there and then Blush

aginandtonic · 30/08/2021 00:17

About 50 over 2 years. It was stressful!

Pulled out of a few due to surveys (eg: underpinning, roof collapsing.) And missed out on 3/4 that went to best and final offers.

Finally got our house and love it. Loads of work needed though and not sure we'll stay long. Certainly learnt our lesson to not move & rent to property hunt!

Ruralbliss · 30/08/2021 00:29

House I'm about to buy/move to: One other 15 mins before. I went to rule both out & am buying the one I liked least. I had a proper emotional falling in love to the first a 1960s time capsule as I stepped over the threshold but my wise teens reminded me I vowed never to buy another doer-upper so am buying the solid 2 year old house with very little charm as a temporary 5-8year pit stop.

Current house: We viewed 100+ houses over 6 years up and down the land having sold up in London & all the while the proceeds getting spent. Eventually found this (1960s time capsule) when my Rightmove max price 'accidentally' slipped upwards & there it was the house of our dreams about to go to auction the next week. It didn't sell as the reserve price was the Offers Over price it had been on the market for 3 years. My then husband went to see it while I was away & from what he reported I knew I'd love it without even seeing it.
I've been here a decade since the kids were tiny & I'm a bit weepy that I'm leaving it. Thought it would be forever.

Rozziie · 30/08/2021 21:45

I haven't kept count but I reckon I've viewed over 50 flats since I started looking in spring this year, and people have told me that's ridiculous. I'm a FTB and wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for so I don't think it's that ridiculous. London is huge and my budget is quite small so I ended up looking in streets/areas I didn't know too well and which ended up being write offs because I just didn't like them. Much harder to do 'drive bys' without a car, so made more sense to book in a few viewings in one afternoon in areas I was considering and to take in the vibe and have a good look around while I was there.
