Luxury click vinyl- bad idea?

Littlehouse2 · 26/08/2021 10:15

I’ve seen awful reviews for luxury click vinyl. I want a concrete effect floor and have seen good offerings in this, but the reviews I’ve seen are so bad. Wanted to put it in a new kitchen extension and hallway. Anyone used it?
Love look of tiles but no UFH

Following. I really hope someone replies. What do these bad reviews say?

I believe Amtico are very luxurious and desirable - and some form of luxury vinyl.

I’m never sure what these floor types are really, but I have Pergo which says it’s rigid click vinyl. I really like it. The finish is really good, it was easy to lay, and although my personal floor is brand new we also have it in the office and it’s very hard wearing. Don’t steam mop it though. I’m pretty sure you can use it over UFH too.

I have both Amtico and Quickstep Hydro Ultra which is a click vinyl I think (not entirely sure !). Both are great, the Amtico is very hard wearing and easy to maintain, the Quickstep is in the big bathroom (hence the Hydro) but looks fab. I’d probably go for the Amtico in a living space but it is much more expensive - I laid the Quickstep myself using a jigsaw for the edge pieces and it was easy so it depends on your budget.

Ours is wood effect in the kitchen and I love it, looks good and is warmer and quieter than laminate.

Awful in my experience. Mine was relaid THREE times over 18 months by professional fitters on newly levelled floor.
Scrapped it after 3 years and tiled ourselves.
Never again.

That the flooring lifts and cracks sometimes within in a couple of months other times after a year. I spoke a supplier this morning that confirmed some manufacturing issues with one brand

We’ve got moduleo- v similar, but the stick down type rather than click.
Really pleased with it

featheryfancy This my biggest fear! I don't have the time for that. As others have commented I love the warmth of the click vinyl and durability but some of it is quite pricey considering its really plastic... I compared the one I ordered then cancelled with some decent tiles, same price. I just don't know what to do. I bought a large tile home to see how it feels first thing in the morning.

Do you have a picture maybe I need to look at other types of click vinyl

We have loose lay click fit Polyflor in our kitchen. I hate it - it's terrible. It's a suspended floor with some natural movement and the boards have just separated. We have loads of gaps, the edges are splitting, and you can see when the light hits it that a lot of the non-gap edges are lifting/starting to blow. We previously had click fit laminate and while I didn't like the look and feel of it, it never, ever separated.

We're having it replaced with tile, but it's going to be an absolute arse because the LVT runs under the cabinets.

I'd never have LVT again unless it was being glued down.

MaisyMary77 · 27/08/2021 15:44

We’ve got amtico click smart. Had it down for 2 years now. It’s good-one bit has lifted very slightly but it’s hardly noticeable and the dogs find it quite difficult to run on. (which I suppose is good because it stops them charging about in the kitchen) It’s very easy to keep clean and hides the dirt very well Grin

‘Scuse my slippers in the pic!

We are in the middle of having some fitted and it’s amazing- it looks great (obviously isn’t finished yet so not sure about the longevity) but it has a 20 year warranty which is a result. It’s the invictus maximus click and our local flooring showroom had it. It’s got a really good texture too and wasn’t too expensive.

Hi: Do you like how it looks the invictus click after a few years? How much costed the installing? I assume cheaper than for other type of flooring since it has the click system. Many thanks!

I literally have flooring samples within view from me right now :-).

My builder recommended laminate not for budget at all, but as thicker [with the vinyl only a few mm of "actual" flooring on it] and edges are he says less noticeable on feet. Cheaper is a bonus. And 12mm minimum, he says. He is amazing in all of his recommendations so I have no hesitation going with it.

I am absolutely not going branded.

Wickes have a really good selection [£15psqm] and Howdens [£13psqm trade] some but fewer, they seem keener on the vinyl. Also Jordans Flooring I am looking at but I don't remember if they had much non-wood-look. Wickes also sell samples for £2

Although laminate IIRC isn't recommended for actually wet bathroom space. I'm having it in a very underused shower room (and kitchen). But I THINK you can get more expensive guaranteed waterproof laminate choices

HTH!
