Could I put windows here?

Our living room is in the middle of the house (between the downstairs toilet and the conservatory). This means we have no windows in our living room and it's SO dark (I've posted on here before about it - got some really good suggestions but nothing my partner would agree on!). Do you think a single window either side of the fire place would work, or look silly? The windows would be a few feet away/opposite the side of next doors house (they don't have any windows on this wall) so there would be no spectacular views but at least it would let some light in...

That would definitely work and I think would look really good. I've seen a lot of 60s houses with dual aspect windows in the lounge.

What would the view out be? A brick wall or fence? Could you put some plants (climbers) there to make it a nicer view?

It would be fine. We had a window like that in the sitting room of one of our houses. It was to the left of the fireplace and looked towards the side of the next door house. Another on on the other side would have looked fine too.

Thank you both!

The view would literally just be a brick wall a couple of metres away Grin but as long as some light comes into the room I really don't mind.

Maybe obscure glass so light comes in but view of the brick wall masked?

It is pretty common in 30s bungalows near me to have two small windows either side of the fireplace. Obscure or stained glass.

We've got that - 2 little windows with stained glass in them. We like them as it's a really dark room at that end.

You may struggle with planning as they face next door - it may be that the glass needs to be occluded.

You will need planning permission for that OP.
