Considering moving here?
Is it really the poor neighbour of Amersham or it is worth considering?

We are moving to Chartridge and when we went to Chesham town centre, it seemed fine, I was prepared for the worst! There are parts of Chesham that look run down but I wouldn't dismiss it completely. You just need to look in the nicer parts, Lowndes Park is lovely, there are some nice bars and cafes, good schools. Chesham is cheaper than Amersham though so I can see why it is considered a poorer neighbour!

@Blackletterofthelaw
Thank you! I did see Chartridge Lane which looked nice.
Will go and have a look myself but just wanted some first hand experience as I've heard it's quite rough

We’re in Amersham. Chesham has some nice bits - chartridge Lane, Berkeley Ave, White Hill. CGS is a great school. Lovely countryside around. It has a drugs problem and its fair share of skanky roadmen. Transport is better from Amersham.

Egghead68 · 19/08/2021 16:59

Lovely place. Beautiful countryside and park. Quirky shops and cafes. Twice weekly markets. Outstanding schools. Great community spirit. It’s cheaper than Amersham as transport to London is less frequent and as it is more socioeconomically mixed (if has a 1930s council estate in the North - Pond Park). It’s far from rough though! It’s had a Waitrose since the 1970s and they only build in affluent areas.
You could join the OurChesham Facebook group to get a feel for it.

The most exclusive areas are Ley Hill, Chartridge Lane and Manor Way but I think the old town (Church St etc) is the prettiest. It’s where they filmed some of The Imitation Game. Parts of Waterside are also lovely.

m00rfarm · 19/08/2021 17:05

The old town is lovely. I had a cottage there several years ago and loved it. I would definitely recommend the area. old Amersham is nice but Amersham itself is not better or worse than Chesham in my view.

Egghead68 · 19/08/2021 17:10

Amersham has less soul than Chesham I think.

I don’t know your budget but these all look lovrly, especially the first one:

Chesham is awesome! I have been here for 6 years and absolutely love it. Great place for families.

HappinessButterfly · 19/08/2021 17:35

And I agree with Egghead, Amersham is more expensive but doesn’t have the soul or sense of community that Chesham does

foodislife1 · 19/08/2021 18:00

Thanks for the replies

@Egghead68 those are slightly out of our budget!
I'm glad you like it there - will definitely join the fb group to get a feel of it.

Are there decent nurseries nearby?
