Tiling Question

Any ideas please; I have just had my dining room tiled, after he left I noticed that the tiler has left the tiles surrounding the fireplace ungrouted, also below a stone seating area. I asked him to come and finish this next week but he says that he has left them ungrouted for expansion as they will move and crack when the fireplace gets hot; does this sound correct please?

I'd have thought he'd have used flexible floor grout for that reason. They shouldn't be left ungrouted, surely? It doesn't sound right.

I'll put a call out to @Pigletjohn, he's sure to know.

I think I've heard of people using silicone sealant to allow for expansion

the gaps will soon fill up with dirt anyway.

you didn't use white grout, did you?

Hmm not sure I want them filling with dirt, everything is nice and shiny currently! I guess I can add some silicon sealant myself though surely he should have done this...? No, I chose grey grout -though it's come out much lighter than it looked on the chart :/

I just looked, and round the edges of the room, where the tiled floor meets the wall, or the tiles meet a WC pan, silicone is used for the expansion gap.

A tiled fireplace is quite uncommon now. There might be some other product.
