Buying a house near a cemetery

Looking for advice from anyone who lives or has lived next to cemetery. We're looking to move house and have seen one that looks perfect for us that backs on to a cemetery. The cemetery itself doesn't bother me as I don't get spooked and I think it will be nice and peaceful. I'm mostly concerned about spiders! The house we currently live in us quite old and full of spiders. I get rid of large spiders daily! This house is a newer house (1960/70s) but I'm concerned that being close to a cemetery it may get a lot of spiders. Does anyone else have any experience in this area? Also are there any drawbacks to living in a property that backs on to a public cemetery?

A century would be Liley to be snapped up and developed into housing !

I would see it as an advantage.

I love walking through graveyards always fascinating looking at the headstones.

We used to live in a terraced house in SE London which backed onto a cemetery, and we loved it. Beautiful views of trees from the back of the house, not overlooked - and no more spiders than any other house I've ever lived in.

How peculiar - spiders, wasps, mice, ants, rats, and all the other things which people seem to throw up their hands in horror at, all occur in towns and cities as well as rural areas! Flats, houses, bungalows, houseboats, teepees, yurts - anything which is a dwelling for humans also provides a home for these creatures, all of which were here long before us, and will be here long after we are extinct! Unless you plan to live in a hermetically sealed metal box?

There is likely to be ivy so yes, spiders, but no so much more than anywhere else.
I would be looking more at bell ringing times, adjoining community centres comings and goings and parking on a Sundays.

I once viewed a house opposite a cemetery, spiders wasn’t something I considered tbh!

I realised the church attached to it was quite busy, didn’t have much parking & there were loads of service’s happening all the time so I kept on looking on that basis.

DH grew up in a house that backed onto a London Cemetery. It was a wonderful location, peaceful and green in central city. PILs lived there for 50 years, no problems, spiderwebs or otherwise.

Just in case anyone fancies really quiet neighbours and no gardening, this is available in my area...

Here's another - I don't really like the decor (or garden) but it has potential to be amazing:
Sewerby Road, Bridlington

Imagine that conservatory filled with plants!

And another in Plymouth:
Ford Park Road, Plymouth, Devon, PL4

Anyone find any more?
I would love to live in / next to a cemetery!

We live next door to a cemetery. We get the normal amount of spiders! No church attached, entrance not on our Rd. Very occasional funeral in new part which is further down. So used to the quiet it's alway a surprise to hear someone over there visiting or when the council are working. Lots of lovely wildlife. So definitely don't let spiders put you off (I hate spiders 😬)

We used to back onto a cemetery. It was at the top of a hill and we would take a cup of tea and sit on a bench. The views were amazing you could see for miles. DH's dad is interred there. I loved hearing the Church bells.

One of our cats walked up there with us once. He was completely freaked out by it - but not by spiders. They weren't a thing. My little niece used to call it "the village of the dead people Smile

Why on earth would anyone think that proximity to a cemetery would influence the number of spiders in a house?

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 16/08/2021 21:44

And another in Plymouth:

You get a lot more ghosts (and spiders) for your money in Fife.
